Dunn had to be talked into it. Original idea for the student need project came from a staff member (alumni) in the development office. Student organizations caught on and pushed for Dunn to give his approval.

Dunn is a very humble, easy to like, down-to-earth guy. I know him pretty well. He would never push or suggest to have something named after him.

RE: The Dunn Zone
When George Bush was campaigning he did a series of train stops. There is a tiny train station in Schoolcraft that hasn't been used for 50 years. It was made to look like an operating station as the whole thing was staged for the evening news.

He got off the train and was introduced and ENDORSED by none other than Elston Floyd. So yes, WMUs best president wasn't your typical faculty lounge leftist, but rather a clear headed middle of the road conservative.

Beetle blamed Floyd for the fiscal problems she inherited, mainly the Seeley Center. What Beetle never grasped was that a major part of her job was fund raising for large projects such as Seeley and the med school. Dunn and Floyd did their part. They secured the initial funding for those projects. She on the other hand couldn't run a successful bake sale let alone talk people into donating millions, but she was very good about blaming her failures on the previous administration.

RE: The Dunn Zone
I graduated under Elson Floyd... I just remember seeing him EVERYWHERE! It seemed that every time I was walking through campus he was somewhere surrounded by students or just walking through campus. WMU made some HUGE steps during his presidency and I was very disappointed when he left for Missouri ( I think )... I think Haenicke came back to fill the gap until Bailey was hired... it was like all of the work Elson did just came to a screeching halt... and then I think Bailey actually took some of those steps and went backwards... its just too bad that WMU had to go through those years...

I for one am so excited for the students and the University that they have yet another President that is accessible and seems to have the best interest of the University as a whole in mind... academics, sports, technology and collaboration... Great for WMU.

Agreed I miss Floyd. I get sad thinking of what could've been. But as it was stated earlier, there's a reason he was courted away. The mans a star. I bet he knew every employees name.

It's interesting when you think about it, should we not have Waldo Stadium? Or Heineke Hall? Or Sangrin Hall, all of whom are former presidents of WMU? Naming things after university presidents is common.

How many of those were named in the first several years of them as president.

Although the Dunn Zone is minor and probably short lived. Assuming Dunn doesn't do something scandalous later, I hope he gets something far more important named after him. That's an honor that should be bestowed.

Nothing wrong with the Dunn Zone, just kinda silly.

Did you just say that something new that has to do with our football program is silly? Come on. Not at WMU.

RE: The Dunn Zone
I'd hate to break from our old tradition of the students getting trashed and the girls telling the guys that if they want a chance at getting laid they have to leave at half time.

These new traditions of trying to keep them engaged on the event are just silly.

Here's a new tradition I'd like to see.

A. Dress warm so the chicks don't whine about the cold.

B. Start a tradition of not being pu$$y whipped. When the girls want to go tell them, "See ya!"

C. Now that the students are on the visitors entrance to the fiel, heckle them mercilessly.

During the Darnell hay days there were plenty of students at games. Pretty simple "new tradition" win.

While I'm admittedly a Cubit fan, student support fell under him because we never really were in a MAC championship race.

I believe in Bronco fans and students we have shown we are as good as any in the MAC. But you gotta win some, and be in the hunt most years.....we do that it'll be a tough ticket in Kzoo.

All Darnell had to do was keep it close with Florida and Michigan for a half, and win the west and attendance was solid.

Another thing if like to see for all home games...minus Comm Night, 330 starts. Lets students sleep in/pre drink. But game ends early enough kids don't need to leave early for the bar.

You're starting to remind me of Karl Childers, the simpleton from Slingblade. He had a limited ability to engage in discussion too.

Your responses are limited to "uhh-huu," or talking about "French fried taters."

He's a tool...."uhh-huh."

Fleckies......"uhhhh-huh."

This.......French fried taters

You're a bitter old man...... Uuuuhhhhh-hmmm.

Please Chuck.........French fried taters.

Look old man, one thing that college kids live for is chasing girls. You sound like you are bitter for never really being the object of girls attention, using that "p whipped" like you do.

Jeeze, I've seen your act, you define "p whipped"

I can count about 30? Maybe less of these shirts on the student side. I am in the press box so have a good view.
