It sounds like a defense we can attack. I feel better about his game now than I did earlier today.
As my shootout prediction indicates on the prediction thread, I think we can score on Rice. Our weaknesses have been prevent schemes and tall DBs that TH couldn't see over or through.
With our new found running game, I don't think we need to worry about Rice doubling up on every receiver in a pass only scheme. Further, the Owls don't have any DBs much over 6', and most are well under that.
Assuming that our receivers and TH get better in synch every game, AND,
nothing is wrong with Henickie (Drops aside, there were way too many floaters and very little zip vs EMU. Really.... a rogue ball???) we should be able to score against Rice in our usual fashion.
Against EMU, their NT Pat O'Conner was pressuring Taylor way too much. I hope that was a singular situation due to how good O'Conner is.
Our defense may be problematic, especially against a team that put up 481 yards against Texas A&M.
It appears that our new found run defense may be at the expense of pass defense. Seriously, against EMU many of their receivers were wide open on every play. Their QB just couldn't hit them. Maybe we knew that.
Rice can run conventionally, and the starting QB (Driphus) is a major run threat as well. He is also prolific passer, with excellent WRs and a great TE to throw to. The backup QB may be an even better passer.
IMO Rice has a substantially better offense than NC State, and a defense that may or may not be as good, but probably a step below that of NCSU.
Hence my prediction of a high scoring shootout, probably the last to score wins.
