On a related note Gunner named CFPA National Performer and Quarterback of the week.

http://t.co/xdPFoI4TNh

Bleacher Report also names Gunner Kiel Offensive Player of the week.

Great stuff. Every time we get mentioned it builds up the program by a smidge.

are they still putting the coaches weekly conference call on the AAC web site? I really like listening to the coaches comments to reporter questions.

Since O'Donnell left punting was something we wanted to forget.

Definitely - every bit of positive publicity we can get is beneficial. Well deserved individual props for the guys, too.

I'm just trying not to get too excited about Gunner. He is a type of player not often (if ever) seen at our school. Was watching Eli Manning miss receiver after receiver yesterday thinking - Gunner would make that pass. And no doubt he will someday.[/align]

I agree 1000% we have seen some good QB play with Pike and Zach but with Kiel it just seems different he just looks like an NFL QB to me.Never been so excited for a UC-Miami game and thats all because i want to watch Gunnar.

Our good QB's have always been scrappers with deficiencies in some areas that they made up for in other ways - perfect for a career in the CFL or AFL. It's a bit strange to have a QB who is straight out of central casting for QB's - has the height, build, pocket awareness, rocket accurate arm, etc. Awesome that him playing coincides with a ridiculous crop of receivers - who will all benefit when it comes to their prospective pro careers due to having Gunner throwing to them. And it is great for the program since his background association with large programs and his success at UC will be a constant source of intrigue for national sports reporters - to the benefit of UC and our recruiting.

Every time he and McKay (another transfer) connect like they did on Friday is another argument to that 2nd string guy at Bama or Notre Dame, etc. that he should be playing at UC instead of hoping to finally get a chance to see the field his senior year.

Told you he was getting hype for a reason. We haven't had a QB at UC with a ceiling as high as his since Greg Cook played at UC.

There is a reason he was being listed as a top 5 or top 10 NFL QB prospect before he had even taken a snap.

It's funny - I've seen a lot of folks here and elsewhere trying to downplay his performance against Toledo because of injuries in the secondary. Fine. No question Toledo had blown its coverage a few times. But look at Kiel's last two touchdown passes. He was laser precise and an NFL secondary couldn't have stopped him on those throws. This dude is legit.

That first drive of the 4th quarter was very impressive all around. Kid goes out, gets fluids, comes back in and sticks a dagger in their hopeful hearts. This after the momentum had shifted, added to that, it was his first football game in 3 years.

The only real quirks in his playing, is that he stares down a bit and needs to get through his progressions faster. Both of those will pick up each week.
You add to that, that he has this group of receivers who are all fast and range from 6'1-6'5 + a pretty veteran O-line. If they don't fear the offense, good. Let them doubt, I hope they never see the ass kicking coming.

RE: Gunner & Geraci AAC Players of the Week
Toledo's defense didn't get to him much. I want to see what he does in 2 weeks. I know, we need to get past Miami this coming weekend, but OSU's D is filled with good talent. I want to see what Gunner does against talent. I loved his performance Friday but I'm not calling him the second coming yet. I'm glad we have him but let's how he and this team deal with adversity. I'm a Cincinnati sports fan...I have guarded optimism.

I'll have to watch the game again. Honestly, I didn't notice him staring down his receivers/not releasing quickly, but I'd been drinking. So there's that.

I thought at first he was watching his primary receivers too much, then I saw a few plays where he looked off the defense one way and came back to a receiver on the other side of the field. The more I watched, the more I thought he did well at that for a first college start.

Geraci verbally committed to Air Force. He never signed a Letter of Intent and was able to switch to UC a month after National Signing Day. IIRC he may have been only offered a greyshirt at that point.

Bottom line odds are Rodenbergh was not involved in that process.
