to keep all the players happy. If Steve tries to keep substituting players when things are going smoothly, it could be a disaster. A team needs it's best players on the floor most of the time. It's like the old saying in football. "If you have two quarterbacks, you don't have one".

I heard someone on a golf broadcast which I think relates to our coaching philosophy. They were talking about why Europe has been so dominant in Ryder Cup play the last generation. The answer was, in selecting their teams to play in matches, they were more interested in chemistry between their players, whereas the Americans are trying to find matchups they feel were advantageous.

When you keep shuffling players in and out, it's difficult to develop chemistry. You need to find your best five or six players, and keep them in the games together as much as possible. Now if you have at least ten players who are fairly equal, then substitute the second unit, but keep the same player together on the court. And when a player is hot, don't pull him out unless he asks to come out on his own. That's what great coaches do. Think of Ga State. Their main players play together for most of every game. Of course if the game is obviously won, then you substitute players. Otherwise, pick your best and stick with them.01-lauramac2

Best five will average around 25-28 minutes.
