How many of us were hedging before this season, unwilling to go out on a limb and say we'd win more than maybe five games?
How many bowl tie-ins did C-USA have in 2000? I tried to google it but that's not getting me anywhere.
This season C-USA has a minimum of 5 bowl tie-ins with the opportunity for 2 others from what I can tell online.

I found it. It looks like C-USA only had 4 bowl tie-ins in 2000.

We beat LSU and East Carolina in 2000 and both of those teams won their bowl games that year!

From the link I posted above, C-USA is tied to the following bowls this season:
New Orleans vs Sun Belt
New Mexico vs MWC
Boca Raton vs MAC
Bahamas vs MAC
Hawai'i vs Hawaii or MWC
Heart Of Dallas vs Big 10 or Big 12
St. Petersburg vs AAC
Armed Forces vs AAC ***C-USA replaces Army if Army is ineligible***
That's 7 bowl tie-ins this season and 1 possible. I guess I counted wrong before. On top of all that, the highest ranked G5 team automatically goes to a "BCS" bowl if not selected for the playoff so that is also a possibility if C-USA continues the strong showing against the other G5 conferences.

I don't think a WTF loss is beyond a possibility with this team. Two or three years down the road, we could be solid enough where I would not expect one. This team still hasn't had to face the pressure of a game being close in the 4th quarter. When it does, I won't be surprised if we lose one, and hopefully learn from it.

I still expect a big WTF loss and an El Fold-o on the road .

I haven't figured out the exact machinations, but the St. Pete Bowl will be between the American and the ACC, with C-USA as some sort of secondary or rotating participant. I would not expect a C-USA team to go to that one this year.

Right on. That's the only one I couldn't completely verify through other sites. So that's still 6 bowls, 2 possibles, and a "BCS" bowl IF a C-USA team is ranked higher than the other G5 teams.
With 13 teams it is still likely someone would be left out of a bowl game. Hopefully it won't be us. The only way to guarantee that is to win the conference.

RE: AL.com readers believe UAB will qualify for a bowl game this season.
For the record, the bowls really don't care about attendance. They simply care about tickets sold. They don't care if people show up or not if they get the ticket revenue. Very few bowls the past few years have come even close to selling out. Hell, the Birmingham Bowl had a bigger attendance two years ago than the Sugar Bowl. As long as the fans buy the tickets, they don't care who shows up.
However, the price of bowl tickets are resulting in the empty seats, because they aren't selling the tickets like they once did. As the economy continues to rebound, it will be interesting to see if people will spend the money. ]
