This one is not going to be easy.

That 2007 Memphis team (first we beat in this series) wasn't terrible - finished 7-5 reg season and lost in the New Orleans bowl; probably the best Memphis team we beat in this series.

I see a little similarity in this week's game and the 2007 game. We came into that game as an underdog and had an exciting dual-threat qb making his 4th start at the Liberty Bowl. Hope to see a similar result.

Their coach is 7-17. They went 4-8 and then 3-9. Any coach worth his salt will improve the second year or at least not regress. We will win this game. It's college football, so it's not a lock, but we should win this game by 2 touch downs. Memphis fans, at least many of them, are complete idiots.

Give them a break. They are excited they hung with UCLA before losing. Most didn't even realize they played football before them.

The day before their first football game, one of the local radio hosts was going over their schedule discussing who they would win against and who they would lose to. Standard radio fare for the start of the season.....only it was their basketball schedule. 03-lmfao

We have had our runs against teams we just couldn't beat and I know eventually those come to an end. I don't fault them for thinking they can win, but what's going on over there is just crazy. One poster talking about how that won't have to open the play book and can save it for ole miss. Another talking about all the reps the back up qb will get when they're blowing us out. One saying we can write our Obit now etc. etc. etc.

Memphis, you are 1-5 against us and that one win came when our all conference qb got suspended and we were trying to run a read option offense with a lead footed qb. I know that big win against Austin Peay was exciting and not getting blown out by UCLA was major improvement but stop the crazy talk.

Memphis has a football team?

Year two had a much different schedule than year one. He has improved the the team light years from where the program was 3 years ago. Not only was Memphis losing each week, they were getting pummelled. Scrubs mopping up almost every game. We will see what happens Saturday.

The bold Truth is that Memphis should actually have a GREAT FOOTBALL PROGRAM EVERY YEAR! Only FBS program in West Tennessee, virtually no other Div.1 program within 50-75 miles of the Bluff City, major TV market, Abundant high school talent in Memphis (See Shane Tucker RB for MT), some legitimate history of winning games, and there in the second Biggest Metro area in TENNESSEE!

You heard of Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas?

On top of that there aren't many Tiger fans in TN outside of Shelby County, turns a faint Orange once you cross into Tipton and Fayette Counties and by time you get to Jackson, it is a nasty orange color.

Your school is probably full of UT fans.

It can be done; however, look at ECU.

RE: Memphis Board
MTSU doesn't really understand what is in store for them Saturday.

Memphis is favored by 8 right now. Coming off a near upset of a the 11th ranked team 2 time zones away, followed by a bye week, the game will not be closer than 2 TDs.

I appreciate that the series has been heavily slanted in MTSU's favor lately, but times are changing. You guys barely escaped in your own house last season, when we were a 3 win team. This year, in our house, it will get ugly for you. See you Saturday.

You don't realize how bad it had gotten for Memphis after the Larry Porter coaching hire disaster.
We only had something like 50+ players when Coach Fuente was hired. In his third season we are JUST NOW back at the 85 player limit...although I suspect some of those are just warm bodies needed to close the numbers gap.
We had some near misses last year...some deplorable calls cost us some major wins (UCF & Louisville, not to mention one that turned the tide in favor of MTSU last year)
After the Louisville game, the team just laid their ears back and quit in the last two games....something I don't think you'll see this season.
In games against UCF and Louisville, we played very physical football. We beat UCF up physically...they KNOW they were lucky to win that game.
UCLA now knows we are not a 'tomato can' as a newspaper sports writer in LA called us before that game.
This Saturday, MTSU will know it too.

Memphis talks a lot then faces the same realization every year at halftime against us: they can't believe our team speed, how fast we fly to the ball, and how quick the offensive pace is.

They'll be huffin oxygen by the third quarter wondering how the heck this is happening again.

We dumb and no good. Don't practice for us, tell the team to get drunk the night bed before the game. Mtsu is way way better. Heck. Yall should give your team the week off. I don't hate middle and refuse to be drawn into the silly rhetoric. Memphis, middle and etsu are the three bastard schools of Tennessee. I hope we beat middles' brains in after that I will go back to pulling for you guys

I have a feeling this game is going to look a lot like the one we just played.

Going to be a battle. Just hope we are ready to get up for an in-state rival after having such an emotionally draining game.

I have no doubt Memphis is improved. If nothing else your QB has a year more experience than when we played last year. It's going to be a tough game for us.

It will be a good game for both sides.
If we can eliminate the mistakes we made in the UCLA game (the general soft play our of safeties) and over 100+ yards in penalties....this is a game we'll all be talking about for a good while,

If our guys play like they did against UCF, Duke, Louisville, and UCLA, Middle stands no chance. Fuente is a speed guy also and our guys are speedsters too but they sure are big at the same time.

I'm not sold on UCLA. If their were two teams that were vastly overrated at the beginning of the season it would be UCLA and Texas. It was still good for Memphis to go to LA and compete with the Bruins. We'll see just how much the Tigers have improved this Saturday against a program they have completedly sucked against the last 6 years.
