The problem that I saw was that the game never was totally in hand. With a difference of 16 points being only two scores, and the fact that we were taking about 40 seconds off the clock with some of those drives, a quick score from StFU and an onside would have had them right back in the game. Maybe I was being overly parinoid, but was still a bit worrysome.
Luckily, STFU's clock management was just as squirrelly as ours. They continued running their basic offense and showed no sense of urgency, including leaving THREE timeouts on the board at game's end.
It was one of the more bizarrely coached 4th quarters I've seen from both sidelines in quite some time.

Yeah, lots of decisions I found strange.
Not clock related, but there was a sequence where StFU had the ball on a 2nd and 9 and got four or five yards but there was a penalty on them. I think it was a five yard illegal formation. Instead of taking the penalty and dropping them to 2nd and 14 we declined to make it 3rd and 5ish. Usual convention seems to be to push your opponent back in that scenario. We ended up holding on 3rd down so it didn't matter other than maybe some field position.

I think I remember the play or set of events you are referring to, but I was thinking they had not picked up any yards on the play and it was a choice between 3rd and 9 or 2nd and 14. I could very well be wrong. If I'm correct then I would have made the same decision EW did. If it was as you stated, then 2nd and 14 seems to be a smarter move.
