I am going to use the popular "but most of our defensive player WERE in high school last year" excuse.

RE: 2014-15 ODU official "Going Bowling" Thread
The way I see the bowl picture 60 teams are virtual locks for bowl bids; that leaves 10 spots, ODU going 7-5 (6-6 more likely) as a transitional just won't cut it: using USAToday data and projections we would be in the 78-80 range of rankings.
A great season of transition and a springboard for 2015; at EMU, Norfolk State, NC State, App State at home; with Charlotte, WKU, FAU or FIU and 1 cross division game (Rice?) at home; at Marshall, Middle Tenn, Southern Miss or FIU and 1 cross division (UAB?) away.
That's if you play 3 intra-division home and away each; and 1 inter-division home and away each.
Imagine the complaints if the schedule was 7 intra-division and 1 inter-division games.

I don't understand your first paragraph.

I was trying to say (rather poorly) that we would be beaten out by 8-10 teams this year for the last bowl slot, sorry for the confusion

I actually believe there are more than three additional wins still on the table for the Monarchs, starting with UTEP this weekend. Hang on folks, this ride is just now getting good.

Yep. Not even in the fevered dreams of Wilder did he think he'd beat MTSU or Marshall and likely not even Rice. As fans we hoped we could steal 1 win from those three and we did.

This is now our time of the year.

Our bowl odds are probably less than 20 percent at the moment. 50/50 we reach the mandatory six wins. 40 percent chance there are less than 76 bowl eligible teams. IF those happen, a bowl could then select over ODU and pick a team that is not normally bowl eligible but meets one of the exceptions in place to fill the bowl slots if necessary.

The very fact that ODU football has a 20% shot at a bowl is effing awesome.

ODU. A bowl game.

^^^ Agreed. The hardest part of our schedule is over. There is no one left that we can't beat. WKU and La. Tech will be the toughest. Not sure what Vanderbilt brings to the table. 4-2 is very possible.

Vanderbilt brings about 80 SEC players who were recruited by James Franklin. I expect to be underdogs in that one.

We will be dogs at Vandy, but they are not a good football team and we have a chance to win. Should be close.
