No friends here Ramen.
It's OK to lose to CUSA teams by double digits, but play a P5 ranked team close and it counts for nothing. Bizarre thought process, but it lives here.
I do think that we've ballyhooed the UCLA close game as much as anyone can stand and it's time to move on to MTSU. If we lose to the Blue Raiders, we'll be just like others in this conference with a CUSA loss. However, if we win, we will have done something that others haven't.....beat a CUSA team. Who would have thought that a single CUSA win would be a point of pride within this conference?
That's as bizarre as Cali_Cat and his overwhelming glee when conference members lose. Weird little joint this place is at times.
I am not so much obsessed with the close loss as I am about people making the comments that our game didn't prove anything other than UCLA is overrated.
You are right though and it is time to abuse Middle like there is no tomorrow and shut TG4 up next Saturday.

Cut Memphis a break; they haven't learned how to cheer for football yet.

Nope we wanted to beat them it just the couple fans last week trying to discredit our teams performance because UCLA didn't obliterate us.
There were also people on this board last week trying to compare UCLA to South Carolina. Knowledgeable football fans just saw those comparisons and rolled their eyes and went to another thread.
Are you pimping your South Carolina loss to our UCLA loss?
No. For comparison purposes one team beat the #6 team in the country today, while the other was lucky to beat a team that was raped by a group of Mormons just last week.

I think that we've been without a good football team for so long that many are excited about this team that has a chance to be good, and that excitement has caused many Tiger fans to become over-vocal. That's annoyed some of the fans of other programs.....not referring to your thread/post.
I was merely trying to lay out the current situation....
-We played a road game against a nationally ranked team near head to head and with some there's zero recognition of the effort.....weird but true.
-If we win next week, we'll do something that other teams in the conference haven't been able to do.....weird but true.
-We're coming off of a string of 1, 2, 3, etc win seasons, excuse us a bit if we get a little excited for what we see this year and for future years.

I think so too. Trying to justify almost beating a team because said team beat an over rated team that was obliterated by a bunch of Mormon's is pretty ridiculous though.

Who is to say that Louisville was not overrated? Who did Louisville beat to be ranked?
Well they did join the ACC so that MUST mean they're pretty darn good.

The Mormons would probably rape most the AAC. Props to Houston for fighting back and not taking it.

Now that is true. Everyone knows that every ACC team is a top 20 caliber program.

So far this year Memphis looks like one of the top teams in this conference...like I thought last week.
IMO either Cincinnati, ECU, or Memphis will win the AAC.

OK, for what its worth, from someone who usually mocks and derides Memphis Tigers' football, you played UCLA at their place and you weren't flat-out embarrassed.
Is UCLA overrated? I tend to think so--I think they're closer to #20 than to #10. The Virginia win looks better after Virginia beats Louisville. But BYU performed dramatically better against TExas than UCLA did.
So Memphis made it a game against a top 25 team. I wouldn't hang your heads about that. Tiger Nation looks to find out what it's like at one of those Bowl Game things.
EDIT: Unless you lose to Middle Tennessee, in which case chances are you and UCLA both suck.

Next week against Arizona St will tell. They should beat USC after watching that game against BC. They will loose to Oregon. Oregon takes the PAC-12 and finishes undefeated. UCLA finishes second or third depending on the game next week.

RE: Do you guys still UCLA is overrated
People close to our program understand the progress we are making; however, when your most recent history has a string of horrible results you have to prove it on the field. A lot of Tiger fans think we are in the process of doing just that but its unreasonable to expect fans of our conference mates to crown us royalty due to a close loss to a ranked team.
Note: If you go to the thread ranking the conference after 3 weeks noone has the Tigers in the cellar. Thats progress of a sort and taking care of business in our next two games would be a huge next step.

I think Memphis is much better than they are given credit for on this board. With that sais, UCLA is probably more of a bottom Top 25 team than a Top 10 team IMO.
