3rd and long, 4th and long, good pass rush,it doesn't matter. They cover though, but they NEVER make plays.

I agree. I think last years stats were elevated because teams didn't have to pass against us. But we MUST get a consistent pass rush at some point. Even good DBs can only cover so long.

And now the "best" one is disqualified.

Well, like most of our DB's he blows up people after the catch, but they still MAKE THE CATCH.

Currie has legit talent. In fact they all have talent for the position, they just seem to lack instinct. When to break on the ball, when to wrap up rather than blow up a receiver, and knowing where the first down marker. That forth and eleven that eventually went for a touchdown was a simple case of knowing where the first down marker was and keeping the play in front of it.

I saw a lot of improvement from a young Dline, and the upper class DB's took three steps backwards.

Zamort is their best cover guy. Currie is pretty strong at safety. Celiscar is pretty good but a bit overrated.

Is it just me or did our secondary and defense as a whole actually play better last night after Celiscar was ejected? Prior to that neither team could be stopped. After that WMU D seemed to turn things up.

Probably just coincidence but a coincidence none the less.

Aside from a few gashes most notably that 3rd and 10 slant for 6 and the 4th and 11 conversion and lousy spot that resulted in a TD the defense did an adequate job of keeping Idaho in check.Of the DBs Celiscar seems to gamble more than he should and most of the other guys don't make enough plays on the ball in the air for my taste. Maybe the unit plays more even when he isn't in but has less playmaking ability?

we saw more playmaking last night than we've seen in a LONG time.

It takes more than secondary for good pass defense!

There is a lot of ground to cover in the secondary, officials are calling more holding in secondary, and all teams have fast receivers.

Good secondary play works when you get a pass rush.

Presently the front 4 is fighting with 5 large "O linemen" and not getting penetration.

We could use a little "blitzing" of the corners and from our linebackers.

I believe we are going to see a lot of growth from Smith and Braster with Ash as the year progresses!
