Maybe the CUSA schools, but Texas State is on an island in the Sun Belt as the lone Texas school.
We have 35,000 students, a 30,000 person stadium in the heart of Texas. Just outside of Austin, 30 minutes from San Antonio. Within 3 hours of Houston and Dallas. We previously went west to the WAC when we moved up. We just went to the Sun Belt when we saw the writing on the wall
So the solution is to put yourself on an even bigger island in the MWC?
At least in the Sun Belt you have two Louisiana teams, and Arkansas team, and a New Mexico team. Plus you are in a conference with Eastern time zone exposure.....ask the former Central time zone WAC or Big West schools what it's like to play in the games that don't finish before the Sunday paper goes to bed.
Start the game earlier. 5:00?
If it were that simple wouldn't they already be doing it?
Only if your game isn't on TV. Any game on ESPN or CBSSN get put into a later slot.

Cal Poly, UC Davis and Sacramento State. Then pick up NMSU.
MWC West
Cal - Davis
Fresno State
Hawaii
Nevada - Las Vegas
Nevada
Sacramento State
San Diego State
San Jose State
MWC East
Air Force
Boise State
Cal Poly
Colorado State
New Mexico
New Mexico State
Utah State
Wyoming
At the moment, my guess is the Idaho Vandals drop to FCS and join the Big Sky Conference.
UCDavis is fundraising for a 30k stadium. Davis I can see.
The MWC will choose Texas schools well before the others.
The problem with that is in order to get one Texas school the MWC is going to have to add at least two, as no Texas G5 school is going to go to a western based conference alone. They just had 32K show up for a game with Navy. A MW invite would mean Texas St would have regular games vs Air Force and Boise that would likely draw similar crowds. They would pick up games vs state flagships--Wyoming, New Mexico, and Nevada--that would also be attractive (keep in mind, the names are fairly well known in Texas since SMU, Rice, and TCU all competed in the WAC &/or MW). Fresno and SDSU would bring solid opponents to Bobcat Stadium. The MW also offers more bowl slots---some against power conference opponents. They also get a higher paying TV deal (much higher if they have some success and get on national TV regularly) and they would become members of a very successful basketball league---which would increase ticket sales, recruiting, and NCAA credit income. Texas State would jump to the MW is a split second if offered--and they would be smart to do so. Its even a better deal for them if the MW brings along another Texas member.

I think it is that simple. With cable TV there are at least 7 games going on at anytime.
5:00 PM PT = 8:00 PM ET
1:00 PM PT = 4:00 PM ET
