News- some good; some interesting; some questionable
Good news below is that the men will actually have their own radio station. Hallelujah! No more getting bumped for the hogs.

Change in start times is interesting. Weekday men's games won't start until, at least, 7:30 with the women starting at 5:30. I bet they will typically start at more like 7:45 (maybe a little later) which will make it a late night for many folks. The upside is that most folks, who get off from work at 5:00 will be able to make the entire women's game. I hope they take up my suggestion (made several years ago) to promote cheap hot dogs and drinks, between games, to get folks to come to both games. Of course, they may take the attitude that if you are in the arena from 5:30 to 10pm you are going to buy food no matter what the cost.

On the other hand, weekend men's games will start at 5:00 pm. I've always liked the idea of going out to a game on Saturday night. I guess this would allow you to go to dinner with friends/fellow fans after the game. I'm not sure how this will work out- we've never drawn for Saturday afternoon games, but this will be late afternoon/early evening. I definitely don't like playing UCA at 3pm on Saturday rather than on Saturday night. Heres the article:

LITTLE ROCK – The UALR men’s and women’s basketball teams have announced start times for all home games in their upcoming 2014-15 seasons.

In a change for this season, all men’s basketball games will be aired on Heartbeat 106.7 FM. KARN 920 AM will continue to be the home of all UALR women’s basketball games.

Weeknight doubleheaders are scheduled for tipoffs of 5:30 p.m. for women’s games and 7:30 p.m. for men’s contests. Saturday doubleheaders in Sun Belt Conference play will have tipoffs of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

This year’s men’s matchup with UCA – the start of a five-year series with the Bears – will tip off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The EA Sports Maui Invitational Regional Games, set for Nov. 22-23 at the Jack Stephens Center, will have start times of 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for games on both dates. Samford and Cal State Northridge will begin the event at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, while UALR and UMKC will go head-to-head in the second game of the day. Winners and losers of Saturday’s games will square off Sunday. Due to travel arrangements, CSUN will play in the opener on Sunday and Samford will play in the second game, regardless of Saturday’s outcome.

I know I 'm in the minority but that will put me back in Russellville well after 11:00pm on weeknights if I come to a game. Completely rules out me bringing kids with me. It may be one of those issues where its best for the majority and I'm just on the minority of it. It will definitely be tempting to pare down my number of tickets.

I brought my kids to games, starting from birth, until they left for college. Even living in Little Rock, I'm not sure I could have brought school age kids to games which ended at around 10 pm. Can't really blame this on the athletic department. The conference decreed that all women's and men's games would be doubleheaders. It's really not fair to start women's games before folks get off work- Still starting games at close to 8pm will hurt the men's attendance. Maybe a compromise would be starting the women's games at 5:15, which would mean that, on most occasions, the men could get started at 7:35 or so.

I remember when Newell came here, I asked him about the 7pm starting time. At the time I did not yet have children, and that seemed a little early to get home from work and get out to the arena. He said he wanted to have games at 7pm so they could get in the paper on the East coast. I am certainly very used to the 7pm starting time at this point. Starting close to 8pm, on a week day, seems to late to me.

We older guys have learned to cope with these things. We take naps. As someone said "at my age naps aren't a luxury...they're a necessity.
