So far which offense and defense are the best you've seen in the AAC?

You mean who has been the least horrible? I'm going to need some time to think.

Best to wait 'til Cincy plays once, to ask that question anyway.

I'll say Cincy in the hope that we at least have 1 top 25 caliber team this year.

From what I saw, at times the UCF defense was awesome against Penn State.

If you take away those two big pass plays, Penn State would have scored 0 touchdowns, and had 123 less yards of total offense.

On that Red Zone D - in their only rushing touchdown, it took PSU 3 plays to go from the 2 to the endzone, every other red zone encounter forced a Field goal.

I miss the days when Houston was always considered not only one of the best offenses in C-USA but in the entire country.

We are what we are. Dropped balls happen too. We don't say, "If he hadn't dropped those balls, they would have had X more yards."

It'll even out over the season. Which is why a comparison like this, where teams have played wide ranges of competition (and some, not even a snap) is premature.

That all said, just face value, ECU has had the best offense and the best defense is too close to call between ECU and Memphis. As a homer, I think UCF showed the best potential on defense and a glimpse of maybe the best offense too.

As to the offense, unless stanback improves upon last year (O-Line included too) we're one dimensional behind an unproven QB. Penn State was an excellent showing for Holman, but a sample size of one half does not leave me confident. Can he be consistent?

The "at times" is the problem. Giving up 454 yards in the air is not going to win many games. Our pass rush was anemic. We were playing some DEs who don't have the speed we need. Hopefully the coaches will put in their backups who actually do have some speed to get around the edge.

I am going to be honest with you. I don't know anything about which teams in the AAC has the best offenses and defenses, but from what I have seen from your quarterback I think that he crumbles under pressure. I maybe totally wrong on this prediction, but I think that Houston might not end up being bowl eligible.

Some sure wins that I see for Houston are:

UNLV
Tulsa and
SMU

After those 3 I don't think that we can actually say that your quarterback is good enough to lead Houston to wins:

v. UCF
@Cincinnati
@Memphis
v. Temple
@USF and
v. Tulane

Some of those teams have some good defensive fronts and I don't see your quarterback having a big enough ball sack to stand in under the pressure that those teams will put on him.
