I have seen interviews with him that are maybe 2-5 years old. He was strikingly gentle, thoughtful and insightful. Very human. Unlike his most famous character.
Also he seemed as though he had aged quite a bit. Thin, even gaunt. Not healthy. But his articulation was engaging and vibrant.

He was a "giant" in the industry.
I believe he also played Lurch on the Adams Family.
