Army Officer Denied Entry Into Daughter’s School: Uniform Might “Offend” Someone
[Image: 29kyo0i.jpg]

Hmm, now who would be offend by a man wearing an Army uniform?

Quote:A U.S. Army officer from Rochester, Michigan, was denied entry into his daughter’s high school by four members of its security staff, told that his uniform might “offend” some students.

“Before he was allowed in, the security guard stopped him and said sorry you’re not allowed in the school. Security told him men and women in uniform weren’t allowed because it may offend another student,” Lt. Col. Sherwood Baker’s wife, Rachel, told a local Fox affiliate.

Col. Baker was was on his way to see his daughter’s counselor regarding her class schedule when the incident occurred.

“I can’t even believe they would think like that after all [soldiers] do for our country,” Jim Reynolds, a local resident, told the station.

Nope. The school says there is no such policy. Sounds like the guard was making up policy as went along...I'd bet he got turned down by the Army.

He _might_ have been told by supervisors that it's an "unofficial" policy? I seem to remember a school in St. Louis county almost had this problem til the local council stepped in and said... "HOLD IT!"

Quote:Superintendent Shaner, a veteran who served in the U.S. Marines from 1990-94, stressed that this is not the district’s policy. He said the security company is contracted and that school officials have met with the security officers to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“I’ve been on deployment. I understand what people go through and the sacrifices people make. I understand the expectation to be respected for what you’ve done,” Shaner said on a phone interview with The Oakland Press. “I understand that what has taken place deeply hurts people. We will correct it.”

Shaner said that he has spoken with Baker and his wife to personally apologize and tell them “this is not the behavior we expect.”

“It’s unacceptable and it cannot happen again. It hits close to home. ... I come from a long line of veterans,” he said. “We will move to correct this quickly, and we also want to let our military community know that we value them highly.”

Sorry ERC, it was not a government but a private industry screw up this time. I know that must hurt you deeply.

Time to pressure the school until it changes that absurd rule.

Seems we might have an opening for a security guard position. He should get fired. That's an insult, are we back to the Viet Nam era?

If that's the case, Tom, then the security guard needs to be removed from his position. I do'nt think it's a govt/industry argument in this case.

If this was muttered by a rent a cop or an official city/county officer....either way, heads should ROLL! Especially if this is not the true and actual policy!!

The school is responsible for the actions of their guards.

If you hire guards, and they make up their own "policy", then they must be fired.

Something tells me this guard is going to regret this for a long time. This is a perfect situation for ostracism to be used by the entire community.

I wouldn't be surprised to later find that the guards are being scapegoated over all of this and he was indeed following school policy as it was presented to him. The reason I say this is another article on the subject mentioned that Lt. Col. Baker was told this not by one security guard, but four different people at the school.

http://abc11.com/education/army-dad-barr...rm/302500/
Quote:Baker was told of the same policy by four individual staff members at the school.

Remember that the superintendent has stated it isn't district policy. It has been my experience that school districts will allow individual schools to set policies that go above and beyond what the district allows due to different schools have different needs.

Being reported now that there were 4 staff members from the school standing right there when the guard told the Lt Col he could not enter the school wearing the uniform. So Red, the school did support this action. You can spin all you want, but facts are facts. Doesn't matter if there isn't a written policy, school officials stood right there and went along with it. Man, this pisses me off. F'n leftists are out of control in schools.
