CFN: So ask yourself, who's the MAC?
Saw this on CFN: "Cavalcade Top Ten":

Quote:6. So ask yourself, who’s the MAC?
It’s not just that the MAC went 2-2 against the Big Ten this weekend; it’s that the league is competitive at all with a Power 5 conference.

Recruiting is never an exact science, but for the most part, outside of a few good players who choose certain teams for the right fit, the MAC normally gets prospects who didn’t get an offer from the Big Ten or Power 5 schools, or get those who received an offer, but might have to fight for a spot. For example, in the 2014 Scout.com recruiting rankings, the MAC ended up with no Top 100 prospect, no four or five-star guys, and 76 three-star types. The Big Ten came up with seven Top 100 prospects – the SEC got 27, by the way – with one five-star, 44 four-stars, and 128 three-star players.

But it’s more than just the Big Ten getting far more top players; it’s about the depth, the coaching, the facilities, the money, the amenities, and focus, and commitment, and all the other things that make the Big Ten the Big Ten and the MAC scratching and clawing for notoriety. So yeah, it really is shocking when a program like Central Michigan can rise up and thump a Purdue. It’s impressive when Ball State can hang with Iowa, and even after all the success, it’s still special when a Northern Illinois can beat a Northwestern.

CFN just assumes that a bad Power 5 conference team can easily handle a good MAC team?

Must be written by a youngster - the MAC has been beating P5 teams for years now. Games also come down to coaching and the MAC has had some doozies.

Unfairly or not, this is what the majority of the country assumes despite the fact that a handful of MAC schools beat B1G schools every season.

Won the last three ('08, '11, '12). Two at TSIB, and one neutral. Should have really won the home game in '06 as well (lost 24-23 after being ahead 23-7... shades of Iowa last week). TSIB likely will not schedule the Cards again...

RE: CFN: So ask yourself, who's the MAC?
in theory the assumption is right- how can a league like the FBS that is so blatantly corrupt in its efforts to create a group of Haves and a group of Have Nots fail to fully insulate all of the chosen teams, even the really awful ones like Purdue, from losing to a team that has been deemed unworthy? Its the same reason Herbstreit blew a gasket when NIU made it to the Orange Bowl, they've spent all this time and effort to create a rigged system and the rigged system failed.

Of course we know that CMU, the #22 winningest program in FBS and the producer of a recent #1 overall NFL draft pick, should be able to beat a team whose only wins in the last 15 games are vs WMU and an FCS team.

Make sure no one tells them that Toledo is:

1-0 vs Michigan
1-0 vs Penn St
3-3 vs Purdue
1-2 vs Minnesota

I don't think I've ever seen this summed up quite so succinctly. 04-cheers

If you can quote a publication that actually believes that a G5 league should be able to beat a P5 league. Especially one was awful as the Big 10...let me know.

ESPN perpetuates the myth that any G5 over a P5 win is a major upset.

Well it's press. I saw CMU highlights on espn? How often do we get that. It actually builds up our programs. It's better than the view...oh it's Purdue. Which is how I viewed the game. I learned more from the Chatenooga game,

Ball State and Indiana are scheduled to meet again in 2016.
