Good to hear that at least the boot has come off...that's some tangible information in the right direction.
I have never seen a group of people with less of a sense of humor than Aggies. I love the story of the 73 halftime. How much of a dipstick do you have to be to want to FIGHT A BAND over a flipping halftime show? And there are 60+ year old men on that thread that are still upset about it. Two things struck me after reading those comments- 1) Aggies are a bunch of brainwashed weirdos, and 2) I miss the SWC.
Also- this guy is bragging about pulling his saber!?!? What an idiot
I was there on that famous Saturday and had a good laugh reading the above thread. As I recall, what really bummed the Aggies was that we beat them on a late game kickoff return. I doubt anything would have occurred had A&M won that game. While I realize the talent deficit is much larger today, beating them back then was still an upset and thrilling to watch.
A&M has been, is, and always will be a joke. I catch so much stick out here in Cali for simply having attended a school in close proximity to College Station. Really.
Schools like A&M are a major reason that the term "Texan" has become a pejorative.

Gotta say that I find the Ags to be much more tolerable than the 'sips (and they create much better stories - I remember a basketball game at G. Rollie White while I was still in school -- there were 4 of us sitting in the aggie student section Owls won by 1. We had occasion to stand regularly which elicited the comment " sit down you queers" and led a nice member of the corps sitting in front of us to volunteer to escort us out after the game.) And there are many reasons other than A&M to reduce Texas in the eyes of many. And everyone sure was polite when I went to Collie Station for last years game. So I have to toss in with Tomball here.

I don't have a problem with Ags, as long as expectations for their performance are tempered (i.e. a step behind in most meetings).
I was at a business dinner last year with a group of international businessmen and an A&M graduate changed the subject to Johnny Manziel. Of course, our guests had no clue who he was, nor did they care. I do find that many Ags have a decidedly regional perspective on things.
Anyhow, they are good people, except for their 20 football players who have been arrested in the last 2 years.

Some awfully bad tackling by both teams in that clip.
There are enough exceptions to every rule to make generalizations problematic. Every school (including ours) has its share of trouble-makers. The Aggies sense of Corps and traditions creates some of their best AND worst moments. At the risk of making the same mistake, I'd say that my experience is that Aggies are generally a bit more open to self-deprecation than Horns, but that those that aren't are pretty adamant in their defense. To put an Owl spin on it, the 'mean' Aggie might be (my experience) slightly more light hearted than the 'mean' Longhorn, but the range and standard deviation may be much higher for the Aggies.
I too have a number of good friends who are Aggies, as well as LSU Tigers, etc. In fact my father-in-law was an Aggie (now deceased), and my brother in law is an Aggie. I think it boils down to having respect for other people. Some folks sort of lose that perspective and they choose some reason to lord it over others who aren't like them. Sports is only one of the excuses. Another example I can cite is while in college I worked at a small airport, where most of our trade was business people during the week, and on weekends, student pilots and, as we affectionately referred to them, Weekend Warriors, flying their own small planes. The business folks were great. They treated us quite well, many times feeding us out of their leftover catered meals after their passengers left. The students were also great. But a few of the WW's had some kind of white scarf pilot complex. They were really really rude on occasion. And usually it was over a $20 tank of gas. Bottom line is I think those folks are everywhere. People who have an inferiority complex will always find some kind of excuse to act like jerks.
P.S.- Doing that college job afforded me the opportunity to see just about everyone who passed through that airport on my workdays - Saturday and Sunday. So I got to meet Giles Tippet, Larry Mahan, AJ Foyt, George H. W. Bush, Mark White, and a few other folks who were celebs of one sort or another. I saw but did not get to meet THE original Col. Sanders. The KFC jet landed and took on fuel but the good Col. just stepped out onto the tarmac and never came inside of our building, where I was stationed behind the service counter. And yes, I worked Friday evening, and all day Saturday and Sunday on Superbowl weekend in 1973. We had planes double parked all over the airport. Sunday after the game was interesting because as soon as folks came through the door we could easily tell who their team was just by observing their demeanor.

I'm glad we're not playing the game tonight. They're getting pounded by the strong storms tonight in B-CS. In fact, flash flooding warning for the county with 3-4 inches of rain already.
But the weather report for tomorrow night doesn't seem bad. Actually might even be a bit chilly (certainly by September standards).
