JMU national rankings
The Dukes are ranked 102nd in FCS for most penalty yards (113 teams).
There are only 16 teams in the nation without a sack. JMU is one of them.

Well are 10th in the CAA in penalties. 11th is SBU, and 12th is VU. For VU penalties is 1 reason they are 1-1 and not 2-0.

JMU is also dead last in the CAA in time of possession at 24:25 a game. Letting your opponent have the ball for 35:35 a game will put a huge strain on your defense. And part of the blame is on the offense.

Aside from those stats, we're where we were expected to be.... 1-1.
Thankfully it's very early in the season and these can be fixed. However, if the trend continues, we're in trouble.

RE: JMU national rankings
The lack of QB pressure is more of an issue to me (we could not get there against Maryland and Lehigh was having a lot of success running early so did not pass that much and really made play action game effective)

The other two:
Penalties I kind of expected with 2 new schemes on offense and defense (that will improve as the season goes along, I think)
TIme of Possession - that is to be expected when you run an up-tempo-offense. You get more snaps but do not run the play clock under 10 seconds on each play.

I know we're losing the time of possession comparison but how are we doing in # of offensive plays? Is it a great increase over last year? How does it compare to our opponents? Mickey would have at least won the time of possession comparison05-stirthepot

Don't know how many plays we called, but one thing is certain.. our offense had Lehigh's D tanked at the end of that game. That was something I haven't seen us do in a very long time.

Very true....in the past we would hurry up and get to the line and then stare at the sideline for 20 seconds while we waited for the defense to get properly positioned. Thankfully we are not doing that anymore and I don't think we have attempted a QB punt this season either.
