New Miami basketball court
No, there's no Redhawk staring you down from a bright red court ala NIU. But it's bright, colorful, and I like the 'Love and Honor' written out on the court. I'm hoping that in the coming years we add 'Charlie Coles Court' to the left of it. Only problem I have is the shape of the red blob that L&H is inside of, is that supposed to be the reversed shape of Tennessee?

Just for reference, here's Millett before the new floor and new seats (the new lighting doesn't look to be on above):

Love the court, but the Love and Honor slogan is a little cheesy and feels unnecessary to the overall appearance of the floor.

What is that red blob the slogan is written on?! Looks more like Nebraska outline?

Its Miami's fight song:

Love and honor to Miami,
Our college old and grand.
Proudly we shall ever hail thee,
Over all the land.
Alma mater now we praise thee,
Sing joyfully this lay.
Love and honor to Miami,
Forever and a day.

I get the Love and Honor reference, I don't get why its wrapped in an outline of Tennessee. Is that because your coach came from TSU?

RE: New Miami basketball court
Some have speculated that the L&H is on top of a brick-like design that can't be seen from afar. That would make sense given that all but a handful of buildings at Miami are made of red brick, but I don't think that's it. I think it's either supposed to be a random tear in the court (which would be pretty stupid) or a hawk's wing (which was poorly designed if that's it). Regardless, the new court/seats/lights should go a long way towards improving the atmosphere at Millett. Cooper seems to be getting us closer to competing for the MAC regularly, having a winner to watch will bring back fans and make it a decent place to watch a game again. Not yet built are the extensions from the main stands, which will add another one or two rows of seats towards the floor.

To those asking, L&H is kind of like Miami's general slogan (ala 'Roll Tide' or 'OH-IO') in addition to being the first line of the fight song.

Floor should be grey, wood is boring.

that's not a fight song. where's the fight? where's the team? where's the victory? your fight song sounds like an alma mater.

Stand up and cheer
Cheer loud and long for old OHIO
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest
Our team is fighting,
And we are bound to win the fray
We've got the team,
We've got the steam,
For this is old OHIO's day!

now that's a fight song. 04-rock

Thanks, Mick. I, too, thought that had to be the Alma Matre.

It almost looks like just the Western half of the State of Ohio

FWIW, usually Miami fans yell out "fight, fight, fight!" in the brief space between "over all the land" and "alma mater now we praise thee." I don't blame anyone for not noticing it, we haven't had much of a chance to play the fight song the last few years.

Lots of speculation on the Miami Hawktalk board, but I think it's supposed to look like a tear out of the floor. Kinda stupid although I like the "love and honor" sentiment and the rest of the floor. Millett will be greatly improved for gameday atmosphere now (that is, if we can start winning and attracting fans again!)

RE: New Miami basketball court
My favorite fight song is Texas A&M's. They don't even call it a fight song, they call it a "War Hymn". What makes it great is that they devote an entire verse to hating on UT, and they disrespect them by calling them Texas University. That's some good old fashion hate going on.

All hail to dear old Texas A&M
Rally around Maroon and White
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys who show the real old fight
That good old Aggie spirit thrills us
And makes us yell and yell and yell
So let’s fight for dear old Texas A&M
We’re goin’ to beat you all to
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Rough Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A&M

Good-bye to texas university
So long to the Orange and the White
Good luck to dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys that show the real old fight
“The eyes of Texas are upon you…”
That is the song they sing so well (Sounds like hell)
So good-bye to texas university
We’re going to beat you all to
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Rough! Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A&M
