Anything that can be done to keep this important date at the front of peoples minds is a good thing. It’s hard to believe but the current freshmen were 5 years old when this happened. It’s getting easier and easier for September 11th to be turned into just another day.

Similar concept to USF's patriotically themed helmets from last year:

Maryland has an interesting and unique take in honoring our country with their uniform:

I don't like the design, but I love the gesture and that is what really matters. The rest is all aesthetics.

I think, and I giving a BIG benefit of the doubt here. What Moron is saying that is tasteless is using the flag in the school logo, per US Flag code,

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.

http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html

If anything, use the flag on side, the full flag, and UH on the other side.

I get the purpose of the design and understand the reasoning, and I'm mostly okay with it. But, at least according to the link, these designs are inappropriate, as there should never be any mutilation of the flag.

Again, mostly just giving the benefit of the doubt.

I like the helmet...

But I want Houston to show-up for this game and play like they're capable of.

This is where we are getting into the minutia of things that really don’t matter.

As someone who lived through this nightmare and lost friends in this tragedy maybe I am a little closer to this than most. I don’t care how ugly or against a code a uniform, helmet, pants or any part is, if they are doing something to honor the memory of that day I am all for it 100%.

I've heard this argument before about other creative uses of the flag. While I'm sure you are exactly correct by the letter of the law, in practicality we as a nation seem to have adopted a certain 'grey area' about this. You see flags displayed at night, flags on all sorts of clothing... Rarely does anyone complain or bring up these rules. I think that generally we all understand that the folks doing the display are trying to be patriotic, and we all appreciate that so we let the strict rules slide a bit...
