Our fans seem to get hung up on his completion %... if you include just stone cold drops from his receivers, it would if been 70-75 today... still missed a couple long today on some shots, but that's everybody not named manning or brady...

RE: Vad Lee passing stats
Vad, the Impaler, has been the biggest improvement in this team, IMO. He looked horribly inaccurate in the beginning of the season (injury?). His underneath game has become superb. He is hitting receivers in most cases where only they can catch it. His decision-making is much improved, he is taking care of the ball like a seasoned pro, and most importantly, and in direct contrast to the Mick era, he can lead a team from behind in the second half to polish off an opponent.

I have been harder on this team than anyone here, I think. I saw sooooooooo many chinks in our armor to start the season, on both sides of the ball. The D is gelling and becoming dominant, Vad is leading an offense that has a hard time running the ball, but he makes up for it with a dangerous passing game. We still need to find a way to gain rushing yardage. A good DC is going to exploit that weakness.

The strength of our competition has been pretty poor, but each and every one of those W's counts. Stony Brook is critical. If we lose to both Stony and the Ticks, no playoffs. Stony will be no pushover.

GO DUKES!

we haven't seen Qb play like this since Rodney. Leadership skills are also top notch. The kid is a winner and I believe he'll lead us into the playoffs - now

This is such a great point. It's super easy to overlook because everyone just sees an incompletion and goes "Oh dang it." But yeah, totally agree - at the college level, (heck, even more so at the FCS level) just hitting the WR is hard enough. But having the accuracy to minimize risk on the throws as well...looks like he was absolutely right to be pissed about his skills being underutilized in the triple option

I've looked around, and Vad Lee should be POW again. Any week John Robertson has a bad week, it's up for grabs.

Albany QB also had 3 TDs, but only 215 yards to Lee's 324 (passing only)

RE: Vad Lee passing stats
IMO, Vad Lee had his best passing game of the season yesterday against a solid W&M defense. His 65% completion rate was important, but more important was the fact that he did it without the aid of a bevy of screens and shovel passes. His success came with a bigger assortment of intermediate passes that required him to read the defense and make accurate throws downfield. That makes the results far more impressive than the last couple of weeks.

W&M played a base defense most of the time and they were excellent against the run.
Vad Lee won a game when he was forced to pass. Kudos to him for a clutch performance.
In most weeks I would say that JMU doesn't have to pass so much to win games, but yesterday it was necessary and Vad was able to rise to the occassion.

Lee is now 194-335 58% through the air. The biggest accomplishment is having only 6 INT's in those 335 attempts. That is huge.

Birdsong's records are 2,728 yards and 22 touchdowns, Vad is currently at 2,319 and 21. Will (hopefully) cruise by him in both categories.

Have to give the receivers a ton of credit for bailing him out on a few throws. DA had his best game this season and that diving catch by Cheatham was unreal.

Beat me to it! I thought the receiving corps had an excellent game. One of those TD catches by Daniel Brown was amazing, especially since Vad threw about a 95 mph fastball

He looked capable of throwing in less than ideal weather conditions yesterday as well. That could be huge as we go forward.

RE: Vad Lee passing stats
This is why when everyone was losing their sh*t about him after the first couple games some of us were asking for people to give him some time with his new coaches, teammates, and the first time in an actual passing scheme. He continues to make scrambling plays that save the game. Laycock even pointed specifically to his ability to make plays out of nothing. And yes, he is very intelligent that if he's going to miss, it's going to be thrown away from the defender, whether that's over or under thrown. The last touchdown throw and the 2-pt conversion should have promptly quieted anyone doubting whether he was good enough to be our starter. He gets better every week and could peak at just the right time to have us make a nice run here at the end of the season.

The receivers had an amazing game yesterday. Deane's diving catch was amazing. Brown had a couple of awesome catches as well.

I had a great view of Brown's TD and that was nothing short of spectacular. Had he not had those "big mittens" attached to his wrist that catch would not have been made.

From the way he started and some pf the decisions he was making it was looking very good. Football doesnt have enough games for us to wait for him to get it together , we are now in a stretch where he needs three more games just like this one.

Yep, have seen some of the early doubters subtly backpedaling about Vad Lee and the team. One of my coaches way back when told me an old saying that stuck with me and I think of it when I am coaching my athletes: "There is instant coffee and instant tea......but there is no instant success" This is true much of the time.
