Tuberville, speaking at his first media luncheon of the year, said that senior Munchie Legaux and junior Jarred Evans also received consideration. Legaux is returning from a severe knee injury suffered Sept. 7, 2013 at Illinois.
"It just wasn't the right time for Munchie to go out and take the reins early," said Tuberville, who said all three quarterbacks will play. "We should have a potent offense. Munchie did not practice in the spring and Jarred Evans was new, and Gunner got a lot of snaps. He knows this offense well. He's really improved physically, and mentally he's got to get over the jitters and get ready to go."
Kiel redshirted as a true freshman at Notre Dame in 2012. He transferred to UC in 2013 and sat out the year as a transfer.
Tuberville said he will not make a decision until Thursday or Friday on who kicks field goals, either Andrew Gantz or Tony Miliano. Miliano has been dealing with a hip pointer. Tuberville also said punters John Lloyd and Sam Geraci are "neck and neck."
