who i think would be a great replacement for SMU

Oregon's OC or Auburns OC

why? 2 reason, 1) to keep the spread, which has shown to be the great equalizer for alot for us G5 and a key that was essential to the revival of SMU

2) SMU's has great tradition in RB one of the best in the nation but have gone away from that under june for a more passing attacks. auburn and oregon are the perfect mixture of the run and the spread

the best RB award doak walker= a smu RB, Eric Dickerson. Kyle "The Mighty Mustang" Rote

SMU was THE running back school of the 40's,50's and 80's

its time for the return of Pony Express

other benefits= recruiting: they can go to any texas RB and tell them they have a Heisman RB and a history of elite RB's ,we think you can be the next..some one is bound to believe the lie

there are probably 5-6 elite level dual threat qbs that come out of texas every year with almost no Texas fbs university's offense that are built for a Dual Threat QB, A&M is the only one that kinda caters to it despite the fact it was built for a pocket passer.

SMU would be able to have a recruiting advantage with alot of those guys, plus the best qb currently on the roster is a dual threat.

thoughts?

You would have to dig up Clements and I think his family might have a problem with that

Let's say he does have some Texas ties, they're nothing compared to guys like Morris, Herman, Montgomery, Riley, Beaty etc that have spent many years actually coaching & recruiting in the state. He would have to at least be behind them on any serious list.

I remember when SMU went after Paul Johnson before he took the GT job. He would've been a perfect fit at SMU IMO. He could've gotten the "Pony Express" up and running again. That said, how about Ken Niumatalolo?

We just went the Hawaiian route. I like Niumatalolo but I think we are looking for a better fit culturally.

Doesn't have to be white or from Texas. Just needs to be able to play to the boosters. Laid-back Hawaiian approach did not work here. FWIW I would say the same thing about Leach (though it would be great to see Craig James' reaction)...too laid back, too "odd."

Our boosters like guys like Sumlin, Kingsbury, Stoops. Energy. Polish (not the Poland version, the one you shine things with).

I doubt the lad-back Hawaiian approach works at Navy. Just because he is from Hawaii it doesn't mean he is laid back. June isn't even from Hawaii.

June isn't from Hawaii but he was there long enough and Niumatalolo was one of his assistants. I've seen a lot of Niumatalolo interviews and his approach to anything external seems laid back to me. Of course, I don't know how he handles practices.

That's great, his number one fan happens to be an SMU alum.

Ohhhh....that would be awesome, but only for the reaction from Craig James.

At SMU, they would be red-brick sheds

Anyone remember Jim Leavitt, the ex-South Florida coach? If SMU could get Jim Leavitt, problem solved. And if you could pull him from the NFL.

I know several people not from Hawaii who have become Hawaiians at heart for life after spending a few years on the islands. June Jones seems to have had a similar transformation. From frequently being seen wearing a lei on the sideline during SMU games to him spending extended time in Hawaii at the height of recruiting season when he should have been in Dallas, he certainly didn't leave Hawaii behind when he went to SMU.
