Wow. That would be a step down for SMU.

He wouldn't have to move, he's the receivers coach for the Cowboys now.

And was at SMU for several years in the late 90s.

I think he'd do better at SMU than he did at UT and he did have Texas recruting ties, at least at one point. The article says they're trying to go hard after Chad Morris but I don't see it happening. Why would he do that when he's making over a million at clemson and on the cusp of getting a big time HC position?

The right guy could do a lot at SMU. Hotbed of recruiting. You could make a living on the leftovers. If they were willing to pay Larry Brown to do something with the basketball program, I imagine they are willing to "pony" up even bigger bucks for football.

Didn't we have a feller that posts here that once wanted us to hire Dooley?

Yes, I favored Dooley over Larry Porter. Although he failed at Tennessee, I think he might be a good choice for SMU. Experience is the best teacher, and I'll wager that he learned a lot at Knoxville. He was successful at La Tech and can be again at SMU which is in the middle of fertile recruiting grounds and has classy fans (unlike Knoxville).

Yes, but basketball is totally different. I wasn't referring to age. I just don't see Mack wanting to coach again and can't see Fulmer fitting in at SMU.

Bluto, I am very very Happy We got General Justin Fuente and he the right guy for us and a home run hire.....But Derek Dooley was Successful at La Tech, and La Tech is still a pretty good team and Built a lot of changes there, and got things turned around for them and out them in a good position, and they are still having some success and building on it, all thank to Dooley....He recruited most of that UT-K team and got them most of the talent that is there, and Put the plans in place for their new Training Facility and create a lot of change that is taking place there as well....Just as General Justin Fuente is doing for us....Had Dooley Stayed there he would be doing the same as Butch Jones is doing right now, UT-K thinks they are or should be doing what Alabama is doing under Saban because they are UT-K....Derek Dooley is doing a fine job with the Cowboys and would do a Great job at SMU if they were to hire him, Then they will be back on the rise....I am glad we got General Fuente but Derek Dooley at SMU would be a good hire for them no question about that.....The World Is Ours Memphis....

False...Derek Dooley wasn't successful at La Tech....He finished with a 17-20 record and had one winning season in his 3 seasons there. There was a reason that even Memphis passed him over.

I sure hope they hire Derek Dooley.

Disagree. I am no UT fan, but Derrick DoLittle as he was referred to made a number of errors in his tenure. His arrogance alienated the fans and the players (current and former). He wasted a redshirt year for Justin Worley on a few meaningless snaps. The O line problems can be traced to Dooley's lack of recruiting as he left the cupboard bare. Overall, recruiting under Dooley fell off - how else do you explain 1/2, HALF, of the roster that traveled to OK Saturday was making their first true college road trip???

In our infinite wisdom, we passed over Derek Dooley and hired Larry Porter.03-lmfao

Larry Porter makes Derek Dooley look like Knute Rockne.
