Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams debuts pink dreads to honor late mother

Good for him to honor his mom. I think I would have skipped the toenails though.

Probably because he ran for so many yards for us……and the Panthers. Hard on some toes. 04-cheers

Yes. Sat out to heal a sore thigh. Panthers running game suffered.

A lot of yards on those toes.

As someone who lost my father to cancer very recently, lots of respect to Deangelo.

I blew up in an email to the commentators at NBC, they were talking about the hypocracy of the NFL if they wear pink in October, but don't take a stronger stance on domestic violence. First, the whole NFL going pink was started by DeAngelo. He started it to honor his mom. I can't believe the ignorance of some people!!! 03-banghead

Pink was started by the NFL before DeAngelo signed with Panthers ,
he help get the dress code changed that did not allow the players to wear pink shoes.

Maybe resigned with the Panthers, but even the NFL says that it has been doing it since 2009... Now they have had people sell ribbons since 1999, which I guess you can claim as the NFL connection, but DeAngelo was the one that got the NFL to allow him to have pink cleats, the NFL's pink campaign has grown from there.

Not sure how if that disagrees with my statement or yours, but it is what it is.

Pink cleats idea came from DeAngelo Williams

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 8, 2009, 7:15 AM EDT

Some of you might have wondered how the NFL decided to permit players to wear pink cleats and other accessories during the month of October.

According to Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com, the idea for the promotion of breast cancer awareness came not from some tie-wearing exec on Park Avenue, but from a member of the rank and file.

Running back DeAngelo Williams, per Reed, petitioned the league during the offseason for permission to wear pink cleats to help the cause.

“It means something to a lot of people affected by it,” Williams said. “Families and
the people actually affected by it. Nothing is stronger than wearing
pink on the thing that keeps you going in the National Football League
and that’s your cleats. . . . Because if you don’t have a firm foot in
the ground you’re going to slip.”

The fact that the uniform-obsessed NFL made the gesture in the first place was significant on its own; the fact that the idea came from one of the league’s player makes it an even bigger deal, in our view.

I was thinking the NFL started that before DeLo joined the league. I guess my memory is faulty. He did get the NFL to change rules so some players could wear pink with out all having to do so. NFL has rule all players but kickers must wear same color shoes. that rule is relaxed for Oct where pick shoes are allowed.

RE: Deangelo Williams Pink Dreadlocks and ...
We BOTH might be right. Daniel Snyder's wife was responsible for starting to pass out pink ribbons at football games in 1999. By 2009 it had spread to multiple teams, but I think DeAngelo is as much if not more responsible for the NFL going pink in games (once they saw they could make money off of it, let's be honest).

I don't think either on their own could've started what we see in the NFL now.
