I'm sorry but the EMU brick wall is dying to be made fun of. It was embarrassing.

I have to agree with most of the comments in Exhibit C. The national media constantly slants their reporting with a P5-centric emphasis. It's not about the MAC teams beating B1G and other power conference teams, it's about how the "big" boys struggled, disappointed, underperformed, etc. There is a lot to be said about the perception this type of bias gives the MAC in the eyes of the general public.

Where as THIS is defintetly not embarassing!

I agree with the gist of the article. Even when we win, we are presented in a different light to the public.

Don't lump NIU not getting respect for winning next to EMU being made fun of for trying to demolish a brick wall. Two different things, kids...

Five schools in the BCS era made BCS games.

TCU won the Rose Bowl they get respect. Utah is 2-0 in BCS games. Both teams are in major conferences.

Boise St. is everyone's favorite mid-major. Also 2-0 in BCS games.

Hawaii got rolled. No respect.

NIU lost. No respect.

Those MAC championships impressive no one in the national media, and I don't blame them. If you want to be discussed with the big boys you have to beat the big boys. And I don't mean Iowa, Purdue and Northwestern. Big boys and teams in the big boy conferences are two completely different things.

Im sorry but if you win 16 road games in a row, three against the Big 10, if you don't have respect by then, you never will lol. I think the cause of the disrespect has changed through time, it used to be arrogance, now its just plain fear, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I don't know why you're sorry but none of the teams that NIU beat during that road win streak get respect either. Three in the Big Ten. One is an average Big Ten team. Two of them are arguably the two worst teams in the Big Ten. Those thrilling Eastern Michigan beat downs don't excite anyone. The number of games won is impressive not the competition in those games.

We live in a a world that the #1 team doesn't get respect. Where their QB is made fun of because he doesn't talk the same as you and your country club buddy Brent who grew up in the burbs. Where his sexual assault allegation just had to be a police cover-up because he's a football player. Where Jameis Winston perfectly fits the "dumb criminal" label FSU players have been getting for years.

Florida has a bad season and they automatically suck. Ohio St loses their QB and they automatically suck. If your team loses, you suck. If they don't lose you have to be cheating or paying players. The Big Ten gets trashed on here all the time. If you go on an Alabama-like run you can dodge the critics for awhile but wait for that 4 loss season, people will say they suck.

We live in a world where very very few teams get respect and you expect NIU to get respect? Don't hold your breath.

To be fair, Iowa had a good year last year -- and NIU stomped Purdue (not winning by 7 or 8 pts). And they rolled a very-few-losses string for a long time.

Now, with that said -- no, you're not going to be TCU/Utah/Boise as a mid-major. I agree with you on that.

However, those 3 teams had a ton of respect -- so it goes from 0 to 60, or 60 to 0? That's the "feeling" many folks get, I think. It's like there's no in-between.

Hey, if you stomp Purdue and beat Iowa, both on the road, and go undefeated in the regular season... even with a relatively easy schedule -- get the same respect as Iowa that year after going to the Orange Bowl the previous year losing to the next-year-champs. I think that's all NIU would be asking for.

And with all THAT said -- there is a lot of commentary out there showing some respect for the better MAC teams out there. There's just too many writers/commentators who lack it.
