By the way, they are also eligible to play in this year's Big Ten Championship game.

NCAA restores Penn State's postseason eligibility, scholarships
I was just about to post the news too. Additionally the NCAA has asked that it's lawsuit against the state of PA regarding the $60 million fine be dismissed as well. In effect the NCAA will have no control over the disbursement of the fine. I think the two are connected and has less to do with the Mitchell Report and more to do with court proceedings. I would say more but it's probably best to leave it at that so I won't be pitchforked and flamed, lol.

Good news for the kids that took a leap of faith with the PSU program. Time to close the book on that and move on.

I was just thinking after the weekend the BigTen just had, it really needs to get PSU football back to its old level ASAP.

Well, the old level, just without, well, you know, the multi-decade pedophile cover-up.

Sorry to say this but it seems sketchy coming the day after Delaneys comments and a poor weekend in the Big Ten...

Glad to see it. Never thought the NCAA had any business in the matter anyway (think the courts are very much involved, but that's another matter).

It would have been in the works too long to have anything to do with a bad weekend of results immediately preceding the announcement.

The announcement would have worked either way. If MSU, OSU, Mich would have went 3-0 last week, the PSU announcement could have been a way to say that the BigTen was back, baby! Back to full strength and a force to be reckoned with.

The timing was interesting, but I know I've seen rumors of this happening on Penn State's boards since before the season started. I'm going to chalk it up coincidence. If it was actually going to happen this year, then they were already awfully late in announcing.

Realistically, the penalties probably should have been financial and personnel changing in nature. Although I still feel that Penn State demonstrated a complete lack of institutional control in this whole thing. Punishing the players who had nothing to do with what happened wasn't the best move. I think reducing their scholarships for a few years was even warranted but not at the expense of athletes in the program already.

PSU needed to be punished. The players were given a free pass to leave and chose to stay. If they were sticking around expecting bowl games and championships, then they only had themselves to blame.

Its fine that the penalties were reduced for "good behavior" or whatever you want to call it. But don't do it for the players that stayed. They made their choice.

People knew approx when the report was coming out because last years report came out in September.
