This is what happens when your spokes are too tight and the seat is too small.

Bicyclists seem to think they can go faster than cars.
They can go faster. I rode my bike up to Clingman's dome in the Smoky Mountains with a friend. Passed a corvette on the way down. Okay, he might have passed me a time or two on the way up.

When someone says stay off your wheel it's serious business.

Depends on the speed limit on the road. Okay it's mostly in school zones where I have to brake to slow down for the car in front of me.
You are aware that bicycles are allowed on the roads right? Just not on interstates or other roads where it has signs for no non-motorized vehicles like Walnut Grove next to Shelby Farms.

I'm aware. You are perhaps not aware that I'm talking about highways in California with no bike lanes and no where to pass around the curves for people heading into work. lol. Not to mention, they seem to like to ride two abreast. No worries...we watch out for our bicyclists. We know most of them by first name, but the tourists don't. This is a tourist town, and they are from many parts of the world. Some of them cannot drive for **** and have hit two of my friends who were on bicycles.
It's legal to ride two abreast but no more than that. You don't have to have a bike lane to be allowed on the street. Blind curves are my biggest fear on the bike. People fly around and don't really expect to see a cyclist there but people are becoming more aware every day they see cyclists out there as part of traffic.
I cringe at the texters. They are the ones I've almost been hit by not so much the aggressive drivers. Just ride predictable, make eye contact with drivers at intersections and usually you're okay.

Its illegal to allow bikes on the freeway here. But don't you think it is to the bicyclists' advantage to let cars pass on a highway that has steep hills with a 40 mph or greater mph limit? Some bicyclists get down to 2 miles an hour on the steep grades in the mountains. You really want cars to crawl behind you? That is just weird. Even the folks pulling their farm/road equipment pull over so cars can pass.
My friends were hit in our little town of foreign tourist drivers, though, not on the highway.
Once you stop on a steep grade you can't really get going again on a bike. Then you are walking it up the climb. The law here says that if you have more than 5 cars backed up behind you on a two lane road you are required to pull over and let them pass kind of like farm equipment. Winding roads are dangerous for cyclist but sometimes it's the only way to get there.
Most road around here are pretty flat and straight enough so when you have a car behind you it's pretty easy to wave them around. At least me and my friends I ride with signal when it's safe for a car to pass or not to pass on rural two land roads. On multilane roads, you are legal to take a lane.
This is for Tennessee I'm sure the laws differ where you are.
