Quote:the UConn Division of Athletics medical staff and the Cochran family have decided that redshirt sophomore quarterback Casey Cochran (Monroe, Conn.) will permanently discontinue playing football due to Cochran sustaining multiple concussions during his career.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. On the bright side, the staff thinks he could become a good coach.

Good for Casey, bad for UCONN football.

Casey, thanks for all of your hard work in the past. This is a sensible decision. A lifetime of good health beats a lifetime of brain problems and possible suicide as a result of sustaining multiple brain injuries.

Best of luck with your coaching endeavors in the future.

Tough news to hear, but the kid's health comes first. All the best to him in the future.

As for the football program, hoo boy. The mountain that UConn has to climb post-PP/GDL just got steeper. 03-banghead

Time to burn Boyle's redshirt and get him solid playing time.

This sucks. The kid really added some spark to the offense last season. I think he could have been something special at UConn..

RE: UConn's Casey Cochran's career over
This is a big blow. Casey threw for a ton of yards against decent competition. Meanwhile, you can expect more performances from Whitmer like the one against Stony Brook this weekend. Sucks.

I'll also note that this is the third time in a year that UConn has expressed its concern with a player's health in this fashion, from concussions to spinal stenosis, etc. Some of the players are now playing elsewhere, including one at BC. Hope the kid never gets a stiff crack to the back.

This is why I say it's not out of the question that Cochran continues his career elsewhere.
