ABC Games for the AAC
AFAIK the AAC's TV deal with ESPN includes at least three games per year on ABC.
Oklahoma/Tulsa was on ABC this past weekend.
Boise State/UConn will be on ABC this coming Saturday (9/13).
Texas A&M/SMU will be on ABC on 9/20, according to the AAC's website: http://www.theamerican.org/calendar.aspx...ason=2014&
Unless UConn and SMU can turn it around right quick, the national spotlight will be on just how bad the AAC is. Maybe there will be another game later in the year. *crosses fingers*

Does the conference have zero say in this? None of the ABC games are being used for UCF, Cincy, or ECU........ seems dumb to have our worst teams on OTA

They are putting UConn on ABC because they play Boise.

I know some people will take this as a slam on the AAC, but it is not meant this way. I think it has more to do with Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Boise State than the AAC opponent. I agree VT and ECU would be a much better game for ABC than Boise vs UCONN. I know I will be watching that game.

Don't you get it yet ESPN/ABC does not want us to have a favorable perception Remember they destroyed the BIg East for a reason.

Ehhh---I dont think that's the motivation here. I think they are just looking for big names on the schedule. Not a lot of big names on the home slates. Remember---these have to be AAC home games. Road games on ABC don't count toward the total. Surprised the Tulane-vs-GT game didn't get a shot with the new stadium and all.

RE: ABC Games for the AAC
Potential reasons why this game was put on ABC:
MWC vs AAC match-up (considered the overall 2 best G5 conferences)
2 schools often brought up in P5/realignment discussions
2 new head coaches: Can Boise stay relevant and can UCONN return to relevancy?

I don't think UConn fans want this game to be on ABC anymore than you guys.

I'll second you on that.
I'll third, fourth, and fifth you on that if Whitmer gets the start at QB.
If Casey Cochran is healthy and able to play the majority of the game, I give UConn a solid chance to win. Boise is a decent, not great, team and UConn has home field advantage. Even if UConn loses, it should be by less than we lost to BYU (a vastly superior team to Boise).
As long as UConn has a packed stadium and stays in the game, I will walk away happy. If we win, that would be awesome! However, the story line from the media after a win wouldn't be that UConn is a team on the rise. It would be that Boise is a program in decline.

Umm...UConn just announced that Cochran's football career is over. Forever. Sorry about that.

I guess I need to sixth, seventh, and eighth it then. Saturday's game against Boise is going to be ugly now.

Well ABC has to show a certain number of AAC games…Thus it has to be a home game for the AAC. I honestly think they are just trying to get them out of the way so they do not have to deal with it later in the season.

UNC at ECU wouldn't have been a bad choice

The positive side of this for SMU is now we have a story to go along with the blowout loss. "The coach just resigned less than 2 weeks before this game...", along with probably a lot of talk about the potential for the new hire. Could be a decent spin for SMU while getting hammered on ABC.

Wasn't there a possibility of this game moving to ESP(i)N 2? I seem to remember seeing in a different thread the game listed as ABC/ESP(i)N 2.

Regional distribution. It will be on ABC in certain regions and ESPN2 in others. The map of coverage typically comes out the Wednesday before the game, so tomorrow we will know for sure.

BYU @ UCF would have been a really good choice, but it's a Thursday game instead. Cincy-ECU also would have been a good choice, but it's mid-week, too.
