RE: LA Tech vs. UNT Prediction Thread
A trend I'm noticing in this thread-

UNT fans predict a North Texas win.
LTU fans and fans of all other CUSA teams predict a Louisiana Tech win.

It's us against the world!

LA Tech's backup QB (Higgins) was our co-starter last season. But I don't think we will be beating UNT bad enough for us to have to put in Higgins. You'll probably get Sokol the entire game.

I don't think you will have a passing game so they won't have anything else to do except load the box.

Load the box. Lets see what happens.

I look forward to a good game on Thursday night. If you are coming to Denton, be careful driving, and have a safe trip.

No doubt, the box will be loaded. Even against lowly SMU, UNT only threw for 108 yards. Wow! A whopping 108 yards? That's essentially no passing game whatsoever.

But your defense is bad azz.

Why pass when you run is doing great. Starting QB was 9-12. UNT played 3 QBs and a significant number of backups in the 2nd half.

Well, UNT only had 15 yards passing against Texas, and you LOST that game. What's your excuse now?

I think UNT is over-rated. I watched the MeanGreen play last Saturday. Don't get me wrong.....I'm not sure yet what LA Tech will do this season. It could still go either way for the Bulldogs. But I'm convinced that UNT is over-rated, and its' offense has no fire power.

Yes I did. And it's still hard to believe UNT won all those games last year with such low scores. Just can't see it lasting without some support from your offense.

I was looking over last year's box score and was kind of surprised with a couple of things:

* Our terrible passing offense did well in this game: 367 yards passing.

Is run defense your strength? Can your pass defense be exploited or do you think this was a fluke?

This season, the whole defense appears to be our strength. We brought back 3 of our 4 starters in the defensive backfield. Our pass defense can be exploited on the very deep ball, but it comes at a very heavy price. How good is your backup QB? I saw SMU get passed our DBs twice in the first half. Neither pass reached a receiver. I believe the second attempt got the SMU QB knocked out for the season. Deep passes take time to develop. Even against Texas we were able to get to their QB. Ash still isn't cleared to play.

* Your run game was pretty good in the 2nd half, but not the first half. Tech held UNT to 3.8 yards per carry on 44 carries overall.

Our running game is even better than last season. Against Texas we were able to run for over 100 yards without any kind of a passing attack. SMU loaded the box, but it didn't matter. We ran for 250 on them.

Does McCarney like to wear defenses out with the physical run game and try to win games in the 2nd half? (We call that "SEC ball.")

Kind of... He wants to play very physical. It is no surprise what will be coming at LA Tech on Thursday. Coach Mac doesn't try to get cute. He wants to be the the bigger, stronger, tougher team, and the players don't get tired either. Lot's of size and experience on the O-line. Our backs (Pegram, Wilson, and Evans) are very good. This isn't last season. Coach doesn't seem interested in waiting until the second half. He wants to start the whipping from the opening kickoff, and get the third and fourth team some playing time in the second half.

Remember, this is our down year, our rebuilding season. We lost several starters from last season. Teams that lose to us this season, probably won't be looking forward to next seasons meeting.

I can't wait for Thursday night.

His point was that your QB1 could very well get injured if you give our guys enough time to get to him. We don't play dirty as far as I can tell, but we have injured 3 quarterbacks already this year. One definitely out for season, another probably career ending. Not sure how serious the third is. Our guys hit like (Coach) Mac trucks.

I attended the North Texas game on Saturday, and watched the LA Tech game on ESPN3. I feel good about the game on Thursday night.

Anyone heading into Denton for this game, please be careful. Right now we have a 50% chance of rain. We haven't had storms in a while. If it does rain, roads will be slick.

Although us Tech fans have a renewed sense hope and vigor about our team, I still need more to base were we are at as a team. This game comes down to which teams offense can move the ball in the rain the best. Personally, I am hopeful we will see more of what we saw in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the ULL game. If that's the case, then I think we win and possibly win big. However, UNT can run the ball well and play good dense. I very much like our chances if we score first, but if UNT gets us in a hole early and can stick to their game plan, oh mercy. Going to be a good a game and I think we will learn a ton from this game about were the bulldawgs stand on the season.

RE: LA Tech vs. UNT Prediction Thread
Overall our QB play has been horrible this year. However, last week our starter, Josh Greer, greatly improved over his first game but he's still no where near where he needs to be. Hopefully things continue to slow down for him and he'll make another big jump improving his game this week. If Greer can improve to give us what Derek Thompson did last year (and Derek Thompson wasn't that great) then we'll be set.

Last year against LT our defense was still figuring things out ... we appear to already be there this year. Our special teams have been very good this year.

Score first ? Doesn't mean a thing. Last year UNT was down many of the time in the first half and won the game with strong 2nd half play.

I still think LaTech wins this one. They scored points against OU, UNT couldn't even score offensive points on Texas.
