The big news there is that Fox is shut out. No NBA for FS1. The entire package stays with ESPN and Turner.

Probably why they were willing to double the price before it hit the market.

Big Ten is going to get a ton of $$$ now- either Fox overpaying or ESPN overpaying to keep FS1 out of the game. Big Ten is the last thing out there that Fox can get for a long time.

The Big Ten is in a great position, but the EPL must be excited as well.

They tripled their US TV rights when NBC took the package from ESPN/FOX, and since NBC only got a 3 year contract, the EPL would seemingly be in line for another huge increase based on the growing popularity (and the ability to offer a lot of live content at times these networks have little else to show).

Not necessarily. Wasn't News Corp discussing just buying Turner all together which would give them NBA rights?

Personally, I hope Fox buys out the entirety of the Big Ten, sticks all their games on FS1 and FS2 like Big East basketball, their ratings suffer, and an already crappy Big Ten conference then has to deal with MAC being the only midwest league getting promoted and showcased by ESPN.

Turner is a publically traded company right? News Corp has the money to just buy up their stock and make a hostile takeover and get their NBA rights anytime they want and neither ESPN, Turner, or the NBA could do much about it.

Buying turned might help fox get the nba, but won't help FS1. Those contracts usually dictate which channels can show what programming. Thus the only way they could move games to FS1 would be to pay extra. Plus it would harm the value of TNT to move games off of there.

I think it is huge news for Delany and crew.

Only way B1G doesn't blow the roof off is if they agree to let Fox and ESPN do a joint bid.

I'd like to know if ESPN has a right to match what comes down the pike. If so, I think you could see Fox make an offer that is too toxic for Disney to touch it.

If you start specifying things like a 3:30 ET OTA broadcast in a huge % of market and a Saturday evening OTA in a huge percent of market and adding a number of cable windows available in large percentages of homes you can easily craft a deal that ESPN cannot match, especially if you promise things like basketball telecasts in windows that are already committed.

Right to match won't mean much here because of exactly what you said. It would probably require too many concessions from espn that hey can't match. So they'd have to make sure eh make the offer, so that they set the agenda.

One main problem though fox can't just offer all that OTA broadcast times because they have Big 12 and Pac 12 already under contract with appearance requirements on OTA as well. Also, Fox doesn't have the secondary channel to support that ESPN has with ESPN2. Also, end of the day, I just don't see the Big Ten wanting to leave ESPN totally.

I think B1G is going to make sure they are cleared nationally on high household number channels for at least one more game than the SEC is.

They do have F/X. And if they do buy Turner, they also have TNT and TBS (and to a lesser extent Tru TV) who are all in as many homes (or more) than ESPN and ESPN 2.

I just don't see Fox buying Turner. I think that's kind of a pipe dream that just isn't rooted in reality.
