Even though his past was impressive, being a HC for the first time was untreaded water, and that made me a little weary of Coach Fuente. But, as we can see, he has done well. There are areas he is weak at currently, but I hope he learns from the mistakes. Like in the UCLA game, he didn't have Lynch throw long passes in the 4th Q to tie, or possibly win, the game. Instead, Tigers kept going short. That disappointed me a lot. But, they played well and have shown to the NCAA that they are a team to be reckoned with this year.
I bet you were "leery" instead of "weary."
Nevertheless, you show you aren't on the right track when you point out an area of weakness with Coach Fuente. You think maybe be was not having Paxton throw long in the 4th due to the athletic defensive line of UCLA and the fact that Paxton did not have enough time to allow those long patterns to develop? Might be something for you to consider before calling out areas of weakness with the coach.
I love how the casual fan is always more knowledgable than the head football coach!
So, you are saying, then, Coach Fuente either could not adjust at half time on UCLA's changes even Memphis was very successful throwing the long passes in the first half? That makes no sense. And, if Paxton did not have time to set up the long pass, how come he could not set it up for most of the second half, but seemed to have no problem in the first half. Memphis played option plays so Paxton had the freedom to move out of the pocket to give his receivers more time to be free.
I never said I knew more than Fuente, but it has been a tendency for Coach Fuente to slow down the game. Just like in the AP game, instead of going with the long game as in the first half, he went with mostly runs. Yes, that was to not run up the score at the AP game, but what is the reason for UCLA? He did the same thing. Plus, last year, when Memphis was not playing well in the last half of the season, Coach Fuente could have put in Karam to see if Karam could be more productive. Why have more than one QB if you can't use them if your starting QB is not performing well?
Since I seem to be the "casual fan" and the rest of you are such experts, educate me on why Coach Fuente did those things and explain why I am wrong?

Paying C.J.F will not be a problem and will be the least of our problems, he just needs to win, win win period. His biggest challenge will be recruiting and signing more players that are 3*'s and higher.

Agree. So the assistant needs more money? That arrangement sounds way too temporary.
I think his wife does well but I don't think those position coaches make enough to justify getting into a long lease with their contract status or lack thereof.
Do we not have enough contractors and money people to set up a nice community where the assistants can live while they work here? Cannot the school build coaches housing on or around campus.

Seems like they could/should. Assistants are a lot more important to the overall results than people might think.

RE: Coach Fuente
I have observed over the last half-century of Tiger football, that many of the same irrational individuals who favor long-term coaching contracts during good times are among the most vocal "fire the coach" proponents after a lean year or two.

I have heard him say as much on several occasions, said he is just looking for football players.

Don't dispute that.
