Nate Jeppesen
In all the concern over the QB situation we seem to have overlooked Nate Jeppesen who was wheeled off the turf. He was clearly in a LOT of pain.

RE: Nate Jeppesen
Getting players ready to play at younger ages (freshmen, sophmores) is as important as game planning for coaching staffs. Years ago freshmen came in took a redshirt and had a year to learn how to prepare for games and mature physically and mentally. Now these guys are better prepared physically coming in and coaches have to mentally prepare them tp compete earlier. So, this will be a good test to our coaching staff and recruiting.

Interesting that true freshman Bill Weber from Texas will take Jeppeson's spot. Quick move up the depth chart.

Geez.
Get rid of that damn turf. Put down some grass like all the good programs use.

area of country...Big East, Big 10, and conference size make a difference. If in SEC you can grow grass year round, same with ACC. Grass doesn't grow well in November in Toledo. Once beaten up hard to maintain.

There's a youtube video out there that I'm too lazy to find, but it was a famous NFL groundskeeper talking about grass, and pointed out the Green Bay's field goes dormant (like our lawns in the winter) but doesn't die, and plays as good in December as it does in September. If properly maintained before it goes dormant, it will perform well. If you just "let it go" and don't treat it like a golf course, then of course it will become a muddy pit.
Now, granted, the Packers probably don't shill out to high school games every week or have the team practice on them with sleds/dummies. We'd have to end that. But it is entirely possible with a good grounds crew.

Grass grows great here in November. You're probably not using enough lighting.

RE: Nate Jeppesen
The Jeppesen injury had nothing to do with the turf. He was in space, when an MU player dove and rolled right into the side of his leg. It was a freak injury.
I suspect the Ely injury didn't have anything to do with the turf either. On the play previous to the injury he ran the ball, may have taken a helmet to the back of the knee, and then was hit and crumbled with his leg underneath him. I suspect most of the damage was done there, but didn't show until he tried to plant hard on the next play. Of course, that's just my speculation ...

Just like Caddyshack...
Carl Spackler: "This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff."
