Week Three - Norfolk State
We last played Norfolk State in 2009 when we won 27-15. They've been ranked in the past couple of years but seem to be going through a rebuilding stage, especially on offense.

NSU's QB last season transferred from ODU and had a pretty good season. He spent the first two games this season sidelined by a hamstring injury and has yet to play.

NSU tried 3 QBs during their game against Maine in week one, losing 6-10.
67 rushing yards to Maine's 95
33 passing yards to Maine's 92
8 punts
2 of 15 on third down
3 sacks to Maine's 3

The Spartans fell to Liberty in week two, 0-17.
NSU rushed 45 times for 159 yards
16 passes and 10 completions for 56 yards and an INT
Punted 9 times
11 penalties
6 of 16 on third down
2 sacks to Liberty's 6
The Spartans started a freshman QB (sort of has RGIII's stature). When their coach was asked after the Liberty game if he would go with another QB, he stated he is going to stick with his freshman (Terrance Ervin) because he wants to build their offense. It's also worth noting they have a first year OC so their offense has probably not found their mojo yet. Let's hope they need another week to find it. Their longest pass play in the first two weeks was 10 yards on a couple occasions.
Based on what I read online, Liberty's defense was very aggressive and frequently blitzed NSU's young QB. Green, Rhodes, and Reilly may have a couple more sacks this Saturday.

NSU's defense is a veteran unit.
I counted FBS transfers from Florida, Akron, LA-Lafayette, Bowling Green, (2) ODU, and UMass.

Week Three - Norfolk State
Would love to see some big plays, going deep/pick sixes for Cluley's coming out party at Zable.

I'm content with Cluley passing for 150-200 yards a game and us running to the W.

If we can build Cluley's confidence while our receivers and defense get healthy, we're going to be a contender.

I agree. Manage the game with the occasional deep shot when the situation presents itself. The strength of this team so far has been the running attack. Keep feeding it.

Really unbelievable.

Sagarin now has the Tribe at #81, which ranks us 8th within FCS.

I think the coaches poll has us at #24 last week. The TSN poll had us at #21. Those polls usually come out later this afternoon.

Sportingnews is my source for the poll, which also reflects our 1-1 record. Polls usually released at noon.

Hahaha yeah I saw that link. I think "real" sports sites like the Sporting News are pretty quick with updating their stats and things but then the polls take a bit to trickle down. I too found it really strange we were at 24, but then saw those rankings were the same as the previous week so assumed they were faster than the FCS poll gods.

Pick sixes refers to defensive players intercepting the opponents passes and going to the end zone, much like UCLA did 3 times vs UVA. Get it?

NSU Game Notes are up: http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/25100/sp...M_ID=25100

It looks like Isaiah Stephens is slated to start at DT, Windmuller is the only listed punter (no more "OR"), and T. McBride is listed as a starter for what that's worth.

Our preview for this weekend's Norfolk State matchup. Should be a good test for our offense against a stout defensive front. Excited for this home opener!

I think this could be a low scoring game. Wouldn't shock me if we shut out NSU, but I don't want to get cocky.

Tribe 24 - NSU 10 is my guess

RE: Week Three - Norfolk State
I think our offense gets rolling for this one. It's a good test against a stout defense, but we have some great running backs and this is a great opportunity to start to open up the passing offense. I can't see them scoring more points on us than they hung on Maine given they are starting a freshman QB and our defense is awesome.

Tribe 28 - NSU 0 (maybe 3)

Green mentions at the end of the article (and in his media day segment with Jay) how great it is to play at home and in front of the fans. I just did a quick check on the ticket site and there are still over 2,000 tickets available for the game. Everyone bring a friend (or four) and let's try and fill up Zable!
