I concur with the OP, those 06-09 CMU teams stole the joy from that era of Bronco football. I couldn't stand Brown and LaFevour or the way that defense would throw their fists in the air after every third down stop. Jamarko Simmons getting kicked out of that game on a BS kicking penalty still gets my blood up. Maybe he'll cross the middle against the Dolphins and Delmas can light him up.
Brown is an example of why you recruit guys like Lonnie Johnson. Was having trouble qualifying after committing to UWV, and Butch brought him over when he joined Kelly's staff.

A few thoughts on this comment.
1. Those teams are THE reason that WMU hasn't won a MAC title since 1988. That was our best chance since 99-2000 and CMU with LeFevour, Brown and others dominated us and the MAC.
2. The Simmons kick wasn't a BS call. He lost his cool and kicked the guy. Plain and simple. Regardless, that 1 play didn't decide that game.
3. Delmas didn't light Brown up when the played in the MAC. Has barely lit anybody up in the last few years. And isn't going to light him up in Miami. Funny, I was playing golf yesterday with a teammate of Delmas and we got to discussing him and his career. Came back to a few different things. First, his senior year in Mt P with CMU starting a backup QB and completing 3-4 passes right in front of him on 3rd and LONG. For the record my friend was also in that same secondary, so he hated being reminded of it. And second, last year MNF vs Baltimore. EVERY 3rd and long was a completion right in front of Delmas after he had back pedaled 40 yards down the field. He never learned to cover and just make the play. It was ALWAYS about the kill shot, which IMO caused him to take bad angles too often and be injured himself too often.
1. They narrowly escaped in Waldo on an ejection and a goal line touchdown where LaFevour's forward progress had stopped. The following year it was Brunner that beat us. I would say we were dominated in only one of those games.
2. Simmons was trying to free his leg that was being held.
3. I was at that rainy game in Mt. Pleasant and I witnessed a lightning strike at halftime. They should have suspended play for safety reasons and didn't. Could be a conspiracy. Also Louis Delmas is in the NFL now and your friend is playing golf with you. I don't think his abilities and skills need to be nit picked to death. He gave his heart and soul to this program and made far more plays than he gave up.

I was at ALL of those games as well. Haven't missed a CMU/WMU game in 25 years.
I wasn't implying that CMU dominated us by winning by 50 points. They dominated the MAC for those years winning 3 titles in that time. And while I think we had a championship caliber team it was just at the same time as them when they were a touch better.
Did Red Keith hang on to Simmons leg an extra beat or 2? Yes. Did Simmons kick him? Yes. And unfortunately he was ejected because he reacted poorly. But he did kick him.
As for our discussion about Delmas. He and my friend are still close friends. He asked me for my thoughts and I have them to him. That's all. Obviously he is a stud just for being there. I just wish as a Lions fan that he wouldn't have always gone for the kill shot all the time.
