One observation: Pinkel had 2 runs where he built the team to 10 or 11 win seasons after a couple less spectacular seasons. So far, Campbell's records have gone in reverse, hasn't it? I do think that a whole new season starts Friday at Cincinnati. That game may shed some light on whether we can match or improve on last season's 7-5 record.

1 MAC title in 10 yrs and UT averaging 1 major Conference game a season. Rockets play a stronger schedule these days. Kiel is a better QB than Mauk-who has a tendency to float the FB. Bearcats will go deep on the UT coverage.

Saw an interview with Pinkel on the news this morning. He was complaining that the police escort that brought them to the stadium took a route that was longer than it needed to be and that "...you might want to talk to them about that." Kind of a weird thing to mention in an interview.

They were probably following the referees who were using a Braille GPS system..

Knew somebody being honor at one of the halftimes. It was also a long escort to the Glass Bowl.

Things I forgot about before seeing this post: the 2000 team didn't go to a bowl game.

I think that bowl snub of his top 25 team pretty much soured Pinkel on the MAC and might have been the final straw that sent him packing off to Missouri, although with his youngest kid finishing high school, I am sure that he was essentially free to leave any time the "right job" presented itself. The final insult of that season was that enough teams that did play in a bowl were able to jump over UT and bump them out of the very last AP Top 25 poll of the season which was conducted after the bowls were played.

Meanwhile the same 6-5 Marshall team that Toledo had defeated 42-0 earlier that season won the MACC game over WMU whose coach, Gary Darnell, was too busy pimping himself for every D-1 job that came open to be able to properly prepare his WMU team for the game----WMU had also beaten Marshall earlier in the season. Of course the MAC championship game was always played on Marshall's home in those years which probably cost UT a MAC Championship**.

So Marshall went to the Motor City Bowl where they beat Cincy and spent so much money that the MAC had to hit up the rest of the conference schools to help pay Marshall's expenses. This is the main reason I have absolutely no loyalty or respect for the MAC to this day.

**Marshal won 5 MACC games ALL AT HOME----the one MACC game they lost was at UT in 2001. For their first 4 years back in the conference----the MAC office signed a four year contract for MACC games to be played on Marshall's home field.
