Can you think of a worse regular season day?

MSU, Mich, OSU all lose key matchups against other power conference level teams.

No wins against power conference teams.

2 more losses to MAC teams.

Nebraska, Iowa need last minute touchdowns to beat lower level teams.

MD, Illinois barely beat lower level teams

Ugh! It was just awful. What an awful, awful day! With no chance for redemption until bowl season.

Honestly the best thing that could happen is Iowa and Nebraska finding their stride and one of them going undefeated the rest of the season... I still think Sparty will win the conference and would have held their own much better against more traditional powerhouses like Alabama, USC, Oklahoma. I think the up-tempo offense of Oregon was just something so different than what Dantonio has ever faced and the team lost its spirit.

It may be the worst week but it could lead to great things. These are people not machines. There is an element to football that cannot be evaluated that cannot be predicted and that cannot be quantified.

I guarantee you that everyone in the Big Ten is hearing this same kind of talk and they are going to be getting blasted in the media.

If this week doesn't wake up these teams then the Big Ten truly doesn't deserve a representative in the Playoff.

For my money though, I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan State gets their **** together and runs right through the Big Ten. A single loss to an Oregon team that was ranked 3rd at the time and may just run right through the PAC since the PAC isn't looking that great this year either?

Don't listen to all the Big Ten hater hype artists on the main thread. The Big Ten isn't out of it yet. They aren't very good at Math obviously.

Hey, I was at Kinnick, per usual, and though it was an ugly win I'll take it.

And for all those people who left, screw you!!!!

I never leave a game early . . . partly because I sit in row 78 and it takes forever to get down to teh concourse, but also because I support the program. Always.

As for the rest of the B1G . . . good God.

As much as some folks want to poo poo on Iowa, they did show resolve in coming back at the end. Iowa is building a reputation of not getting themselves up for these kind of games but when it comes down to crunch time, they respond.

That is a bit of a double edged sword. I am losing faith in Ferentz more and more every year. That is what a Head Coach is responsible for. He has to be able to get these guys up for every game.

If it wasn't the worst I've seen, it was certainly up there. I can't picture any other week quite that bad. Going forward, I will be surprised if the conference ends with a team in the Rose Bowl :( , but think there will be a rebound. I also think that at least Notre Dame and Oregon are very good teams.

RE: 9-6-2014. worst day in BigTen regular season history?
Its too early to say just how bad last weekend was, but this all does put the more ambitious Big Ten schools on the "best team at the time" side of the "season body of work / best team at the time" debate, hoping to improve from where they are right now to a team with a reasonable championship semi-final claim by the end of the season.

That was really on the cards for the Buckeyes, with their Heisman Trophy aspirant QB out for the season and the young replacement facing one of the most challenging tests you could imagine for a young QB, going up against VTech's "DBU" system of tight man coverage to free up linebackers to swamp the running game's point of attack. And even more, a team that prepares to play an option team in-conference on a regular basis, so with veterans that possess seasons of both practice and experience shutting down an option attack.

And its not just the system ... a school that tends to put players into the pros from certain positions tends to have an advantage signing quality recruits for those positions, and for VTech, the "lock-down man tight man coverage corner" is not just one or two deep.

If Barrett grows over the season, its conceivable that he could put on performances as the days grow shorter which can make onlookers believe that the second week of the season wasn't representative. But its still "hoping for" rather than "building on", and of course there are dozens of schools in the "hoping for" boat.

The Spartans, I don't know, since its a bit earlier in the year than I normally start paying attention to what the Spartans are up to. it seems like the very best thing that could happen for the Spartans would be for Oregon to go through the PAC-12 like a hot knife through butter and make a case for being #1 or #2 seed, since "you haven't shown that you are better than the #1 or #2 seed" is not, after all, automatic disqualification for #3 or #4 seed.

RE: 9-6-2014. worst day in BigTen regular season history?
As bad as last week was for the Big 10, several other conferences are playing like crap also:

AAC
SMU lost to Baylor 0-45 and UNT 6-43! June Jones is already out
UCONN lost to BYU 10-35 and beat FCS Stony Brook 19-16!
Temple after pummelling Vandy lost to Navy 24-31
USF barely survived their opened with FCS Western Carolina (36-31) and lost to Maryland at home 17-24
Houston lost their home opener to UTSA (2nd year in Go5) 7-27
UCF (top ranked AAC team) lost to PSU last week 24-26

Bad opening for AAC

Now the ACC
WFU lost their opener to La Monroe 10-17
Syracuse needed OT to beat FCS Villanova 27-26
NCST survived their opened with Georgia Southern(1st yr in Sunbelt) 24-23
and had trouble with Old Dominion(1st yr in CUSA) 46-34
Clemson got ripped by Georgia 21-45 last week
Defending National Champion FSU survived unranked OK St 37-31
#21 NC needed an End Zone INT to beat SDST at home 31-27 and allowed FCS Liberty to score 29 on them. Do they deserve a ranking, Hell No!

Underwhelming for a power conference that has played 14 games vs FCS and teams in their 1st year of Go5 play.

B12 is better than the ACC or B1- but still had hiccups

Iowa State got Waxed by FCS NDST at home 14-34
Texas Tech survived their opener vs FCS Central Arky 42-35 and survived UTEP 30-26.
Kansas Survived their opener with FCS SEMO 34-28
Texas got their butts kicked by BYU 7-41

The 12 PAC (regarded by many as the #2 football conference) had Spllage

WSU lost their home opener to Rutgers 38-41 and to Nevada 13-24

Colorado lost by 2 TD's to Colorado State 17-31 and survived lowly UMASS 41-38

#11 ranked (REALLY) UCLA survived lowly UVA 28-20 and Memphis(historically Bad) 42-35 Do they deserve #11 ranking, Hell No.

Washington barely survived lowly Hawaii 17-16 and instate FCS EWU 59-52

Arizona survived their home opener with UTSA(Sunbelt) 26-23 a game in which UTSA lead much of.

Oregon State was able to beat lowly Hawaii by only a TD (38-30)

Not what you would call impressive

Now the MWC

UT ST got shellacked by TN 7-38!
Boise stayed close with MS for 3 quarters before losing 13-35
UNLV got creamed by AZ 13-58 and beat FCS Northern Colorado 13-12!
While Nevada beat 12 PAC WSU they had trouble with FCS Southern Utah 28-19
Wyoming survived FCS Montana 17-12
Fresno got hammered by USC 13-52 & Utah 27-59
NM lost to AZ St by 35 (23-58) and lost to UTEP (24-30)

Some teams playing better than expected (Hawaii, Nevada, CSU) and others playing like Turd Blossoms (Fresno, UT ST, UNLV, New Mexico)

It's only 2 games people, relax and have a cold 04-cheers; we've got 12 weeks to go!

SEC''s only loss so far is Vandy getting embarassed by Temple (7-3&) WVA gave ranked AL a game losing (28-38) Wisky/LSU was a top 5 game so far this year.

So in all reality, only the SEC has any room to talk down on us?
