Which has been obvious by performance on the field.

But there is the basketball issue. Now that we have finally turned corner from what was essentially just short of the death penalty we'll see if we can sustain basketball success too.

On the other hand there is more history with wkcc having been in the same conference on what is now three different occasions. So, it's a tough call and you've seen different views already in just the first page.

And then there is Vanderbilt. I think you would get some who would vote that. Vandy is even worse than Memphis though thanks to their annual welfare check they receive from the SEC and how that makes them feel about themselves. But we have a lot of history of playing Vandy in multiple sports (and a lot of Vandy dodging playing us as well). This is why I have a lot of respect for Colorado. They play Colorado St almost every year in football and not with a lot of success either but they keep renewing the series.

Colorado and Colorado State have played 87 times, a much more established rivalry.

I think that is his point. Colorado will actually play them thus allowing them to play 87 times.

I got his point, but they aren't analogous situations. When we played Vandy for the first time in 1915, Colorado and Colorado State had already played 19 times. The other big difference is Colorado State was never FCS like we were, obviously Vandy wasn't going to look to create a rivalry when we were FCS and they were FBS, so when we finally got Vanderbilt back on the schedule in 2001, the series had been played 12 times prior and had been dormant for just shy of 50 years, in 2001 Colorado and Colorado State had already played 76 times.

Yeah, now it's mostly dejection from Tigers fans after we've beaten them down so many times. I love playing Memphis and the games are always super fun with big away crowds at either site, but at the same time I guess there's a passion that's sort of gone since the games, almost all in MT's favor, haven't really been competitive.

I appreciate the insights. My motivation for the question was more than idle curiosity. I hope MT will be at least partially emotionally drained after playing a rivalry game with WKU. Thank you for your indulgence on my visit to your Board.

Imagine telling a Memphis fan in 2007 that 7 years later they'd be facing a 5-1 series deficit to us and hoping we'd be emotionally drained by playing WKU the week before our final game.

The climb out of the abyss has been long and painful, but Tiger fans hope the end of the journey is in sight. Good luck Saturday against the Hilltoppers.

RE: Rivalry Question for MTSU Fans
Ask any player on any team in our athletic department who our biggest rival is, and 99% will say WKU. Just because it's fun beating Memphis doesn't make them a huge rival.

RE: Rivalry Question for MTSU Fans
Being in the same conference makes WKU the biggest rivalry.

If I had to choose one team that I'd want MT to beat the most, it would have to be ut-obKnoxiousville, however (in any sport)

Unfortunately, ut-obKnoxiousville, will never come to the Boro to play us and will only schedule us at Neyland about once every 10 years. GOD FORBID that we should appear on the Mother ship's annual schedule. It would increase our odds of knocking them off!
