After the performance he had, Meehan certainly deserves his own thread. He was on beast mode all game. I haven't seen that kind of a dominant play from an NIU defensive end since Larry English. Very impressive.

I'm not sure I ever saw English that dominant against supposedly better competition. He was that good against Idaho in '07, but that's all that comes to mind. Meehan had a motor yesterday that wouldn't quit and the NU O-line was overwhelmed by it.

Now, Meehan can probably start to expect to see some of those max protect sets that English always had to deal with.

RE: Meehan
Meehan was in "beast mode." I think the defense will be in good shape once we get that secondary up to speed. I also didnt know Bass was out this game. Thought I saw him out there. Cant wait till he gets back. as a final note i believe the secondary will have a great chance of being great next year. You see signs of flashes from players! The interception in the endzone and pass knock down in the 4th quarter was a thing of beauty!!

Always a great day to be a NIU Huskies!!

I like how they played Man to Man. The TD NU got to make 7-3 was a zone.

RE: Meehan
Meehan was great. I though Ford was just as good yesterday, he just didn't get a sack if I recall. They pulled their starting left tackle because of ford.

Meehan was just relentless. He might have had 2 sacks and like 5 other QB hits.

It reminded me of the 2012 Iowa game. Progar and. Baxter dominated that game. There were six sacks by the NIU defense that day. I felt today was much like that day.

RE: Meehan
People are gonna cite the suspensions and injuries for NW as a reason for yesterday's defensive dominance, but the O-Line they have isn't bad. And we made them look like sh1t.

After years of bashing Niemann I have to admit, I didn't expect that from the defense yesterday. Obviously they did some great work self scouting and making adjustments and finding the right personnel combination during the offseason. I thought that Arkansas was gonna rush for 700 yards against us. They may have success but our guys are sure as heck gonna compete. Great job, Coach!!!!

NU was 14-23 on third down...I'm going to lean more towards NU's lack of offensive execution than NIU's defense playing well. NU could've thrown the ball over the middle on every single play and they would've had 1000 yards of offense.

Good point. NW had a lot of penalties and drops as well, but there's no denying how much pressure our guys put on the ball -- QBs and RBs.

8 - 75 yards || 9 - 93 yards

Looks pretty even, but NU's penalties were a lot more costly. There were several times where they had a first down, and it got called back. ( not to say our players didn't force the penalties onto them)

The NU OL is very bad, this must be one of the reasons Venric Mack transferred to D2 team to finish playing career,

Yeah I suppose if NU completed every pass play over the middle they would have 1000 yards and if NIU played Georgia and ran for 30 yards on every play, they would probably rush for 600 yards vs Georgia. Northwestern had many costly penalties but many of those were because they were physically outplayed and beaten. I understand being afraid and hesitant to give NIU credit, and bowing to the Big 10, but here you just cannot overlook how well NIU's defense played.

RE: Meehan
Yeah, the NIU defense was actually very good. They forced those holding calls. I thought the corners played well in man coverage, when they were in zone, the receivers found the open spots (which zone allows) and they were more LB and safety areas.

You know how many times NW made it to the redzone...once! That's great. I think they may have crossed the 35 twice. That's doing a hell of a job. Yes they didn't get off the field on 3rd down enough, but to get to that many third downs is actually good. They were forcing bad situations for NW.
