Agreed. I read posts in the game thread complaining about us running between the tackles, but if there is anything more devastating than the size of an SEC defense it's the speed - especially for a "thinner" (i.e., top-to-bottom less talented) squad from CUSA.

Understood, but I think the point of those posts was "this ain't working, let's try something else."

One of the most effective ways to counter a team's speed on defense is to cut down on their pursuit time by running right at them. The more you string out a play - running "east and west" -, the more their speed (DL and LBs) can become a factor. If there is a really outstanding "Clowney type" DL member, the usual remedy is to double his blocking and run quick plays to cut down his pursuit angles.

I think the UArk FBHC considers himself warned to consider UAB a real threat.

Know why Baptists don't make love standing up?

They don't want people to think they're dancing.

I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

Thought we had on the way to the game: Mississippi may be the only state wherein you are allowed to drink alcohol while you are driving, provided you never exceed the legal blood alcohol level limit. The Internet said so.

The Moos will be in Mobile this weekend.

Don't know what that says about us, or what it says about the Moos, or what it says about both.

With MSU playing both state teams so close together on their schedule, it may give us somewhat of a read on how well USA and UAB are doing with their respective programs. Does MSU play Troy this year as well?

No, their $EC beatdown will be courtesy of Georgia this year.

M$U has USA & UT-Martin as their other guaranteed wins this year. Then all they have to do is win 2 of their 4 toss up games against Arkansas, Vandy, Kentucky & Ole Miss.

ALL SEC teams have virtually the same method of locking up bowl eligibility. They have 1/4 to 1/3 of their annual schedule made up to get (relatively) easy wins - nearly always at home - so they only have to win a couple league games to get to 6 or 7 wins each year. Only occasionally does any P5 school pick on someone "their own size" and then nearly always at a neutral site for a big paycheck. This is the time of the season for those 70-0 kinds of scores that are common in September.

Unless they get turned around fast, Vandy's only toss-up game will be with Charleston Southern. I really hope Old Dominion takes it to them. Nothing like going 1-11 when you have eight home games.
