If you are going to make that comparison, you need to account for the fact that you play at OU 2 or 3 times for every game they play at Tulsa.

Houston only plays home and homes with P5 schools.

So divide that $90 ticket by 2 or 3 to get an apples comparison.

With all due respect, sir. Why do you find it your job to post this every week? Everyone knows butts in seats is less than announced pretty much everywhere, despite what some uneducated posters say. Most stadiums on campus don't announce actuals. This is well documented. Frankly I don't care how many actual bodies attended UCF or any other AAC school.

Funny, USF fans sure cared about this kind of stuff in the past. Wonder why all of a sudden USF fans simply don't care about attendance discussions?

I sense that drawing 18K for a Big 10 team may be why.

Fire Taggert and build an OCS and USF will be back to winning and drawing over 40K every game.

RE: Week 2 Attendance
As a UConn fan, I wasn't too thrilled with an FCS game on the schedule. I admittedly didn't drive to CT for the game (but I at least gave my tickets away the week before in hopes of getting butts in the seats).

UConn should get at least 35K fans for Boise State, but I will guess that we will get 37K or 38K for it. That game will fire up the fan base a bit.

RE: Week 2 Attendance
Per the OU @ TU game...

I have whatever they now call tier 2 season tickets (I think it is Gold?). Not in a box, not in a suite, and on the 50 yard line on the east side. Platinum is on the 50 on the west (press box/home) sideline. At TU the loge/suite seating is heinously expensive because they are occupied by big names and/or companies that want to entertain (but generally aren't big TU fans), if you don't have $100 million+, you probably aren't in there. [probably the same in any metro area with one football team]

Anyway, my ticket to the game had a face value of $75. The value for the Platinum ticket was $90. If I add all the season ticket face values up, I do get the cost of my season tickets.
- - -

On attendance, Tulsa is in a tough spot on attendance. Here is what people need to understand about Tulsa:

We have 4000 students, and that includes 1000 graduate students (who generally don't adopt their grad school's athletics teams). So we have 3000 undergrad students who are potential fans.

1/3 of those are out of state - when they graduate, they generally leave the area.

1/3 are international students. They almost always leave the area eventually. Many don't care about "American football" at all. They may come a time or two out of curiosity, but they are not helpful in building a fan base.

1/3 are from Oklahoma. Many grew up OSU or OU fans. Some stay OU or OSU fans.

Realistically, in any given year Tulsa graduates may 1000 kids that will stay within ~5 hours of Tulsa and have the potential of being long term fans. I think that number is probably high. And that is a huge setback in getting butts in the seats.

Also, within four hours of Tulsa we have OU, OSU, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, North Texas, SMU, Arkansas State, Missouri State, probably a couple other smaller football options. Drawing "casual" fans is difficult when the odds are they can drive to their favorite team in short order.

Many, maybe even most of our season ticket holders are fans of other colleges. They love college football. Going to a game is fun, and TU is a good value. HOWEVER, the season ticket holders near me where split between blue and that awful crimson color this weekend. OU is their team, but they hold season tickets to the local team. Still others sold the ticket for above face value well before the game, when season tickets cost $300 and you can sell on for $150 for a game that will likely be a blowout... it can be tempting to a casual fan.

Hence, the red/purple/blue stadium when we play OU. It isn't as bad, but still difficult when we play OSU.
- - - -

I know other places have troubles too. Competing local colleges. NFL competition. Beaches. Just trying to illustrate our struggles. I think a couple colleges in the AAC have frats with as many members as our freshman class. :)

Tulsa tickets were $90 each seat no matter where you sat. That's $2,641,590.00 revenue for ticket sales alone, not counting concessions and extras. I believe you may have had donations to get season tickets too.

Incorrect...as I believe Tulsa season tix holders didn't have to pay $90 for the game nor did Tulsa students.

Single game tix were $90 (many OU fans bought those) but not all 29,000 in attendance had to buy a $90 tix (let alone those tix owned by the Univ, Athletic Dept, Football Dept, etc...).

Don't assume everyone that is counted in attendance has to buy a tix at the highest price (or even has to buy a tix, period).

Ya, I'd say that Tulsa probably gained ~1.5 mill. Also, I heard that the TU OU game was the highest rated game of the weekend as far as TV ratings go... But don't quote me on that.

Sorry but even discounted ticket prices were maybe a little less to season ticket holders but still much higher than any other single game ticket in the AAC. Not sure about students but there weren't that many students attending. My point is the games revenue far exceeded the rest of the games Saturday and much more so than Houston's at ECU TD.

The problem is ...Tulsa's Chapman stadium does not seat anywhere near 30,000. The seating capacity is near 26,000, so I do not see how there could have possibly been 29,357 in attendance.

I know schools often include in the "announced attendance" all tickets distributed, but I do not see how that could be the case in this attendance.

Where are you getting this information from? Chapman actually holds more than 30k if you include box seats.

Where are you getting that figure?

I imagine 30k includes the club level and the endzone suites where there aren't set ticket #s/seats.

Those are all great points. So if Tulsa has no real fan base, tell me again why Tulsa was added to this Conference?

The only way Chapman holds 30,000 is if they count lap seats as an option. That place is tiny.

Nope...I included 420 club seats. Don't know what end zone suites you are talking about? The Case center has a couple of rooms and coach's office with a view of the field, but they are not part of the stadium and could accommodate very few people.
