While the SEC is the biggest spending conference for athletics in the NCAA, the median SEC school is spending only about $35,000 more annually per athlete (about $170,000) than the #2 conference median team which is in the Big 12 (Delta Cost Project figures). All other conference's median teams lag even farther behind. It may well be that the athletic budget for MSU is more in line with those in the Big 12 (other than perhaps UOK, OK State and UTX) than the top spenders in the SEC.

Instead of annually trying to avoid the #6 spot in the SEC West, they might be more competitive with the middle teams of the Big 12, and by adding one more team with MSU, the Big 12 could have its own Championship game again.

C-USA and the Sunbelt are not all that different in median athletic spending and neither are in the top 6 among conferences in the NCAA. They are both in the 5 figure annual spending group rather than the 6 figure groups in P5 (AU and UA EACH reported spending about $200,000 annually per athlete since 2008).

That game doesn't matter for our perception. If Mississippi State holds on to beat LSU in Baton Rouge, however...

Doesn't matter?

Try losing it, 48-10.

I was referring to the UGA-Troy game. It doesn't really matter with regards to UAB's perception.

Gotcha. Yeah, Troy getting a mudhole stomped in them by Georgia doesn't change how the mudhole we stomped in them looks, either way.
