Unless of course, you coach or play for ODU, in which case had Bobby Wilder been running England during WWII he might have surrendered early. 04-cheers

Before the game, another players parents said that Ravenal had a significant hamstring injury and would not play. Thinking that was the case I never scoured the sideline to find him. I think the player participation list is not always accurate as it had #65 starting on both offense and defense.

According to Matt Jones Ravenal did not play.

Quote:Linebacker Gage Steele, receiver Brandon Ravenel and right guard A.J. Bolden all did not play in Saturday's game due to injury.

Thanks for the note. Wife and I hit the Farmers Wife about 8:30 and had a nice feed. Was a nice place to stop after 3 hours or so on the road.

Didn't see any other JMU fans and no one else said anything to me while wearing my purple JMU shirt. So I assumed we missed everyone who was there earlier.

Brian

I stopped in there on the way back. It was a decent place but I would avoid the steak. Met some other Dukes(road warrior I am guessing) and that is always good.

I did not like the onside kick. Another place we got too fancy I think. We had just scored and Lehigh had previously scored easily on a short field and struggled on a long one. Don't risk giving up the short field there.

I had a chance to chat with Steele's parents. Sounds like he is getting closer but still not ready. We really miss him in there and he is very frustrated having to wait it out right now. Hopefully soon.

Did you get the impression that he may be able to go for the Nova game in two weeks? There is no way I play him this week even if he is good to go, as we really need him on the 20th.

You sure we won't need him against STFU?

I disagree with this as I'd want him to see some live game experience before playing against Nova. Especially considering how well we "tackled" against Maryland.

I didn't say we wouldn't need him this week, but we will win without him.

As for Top Dawg wanting him to see some live action, I can see getting him a little game time to get him acclimated to the speed of the game, but no need to push it. Steele is a player.

Two Questions:
1 - I haven't heard or read anyone asking for EW's reasons for the onside kick
2 - I noticed at least two players have a purple stripe on their helmet (17-Bryan Schor & 38-Kwe'shon Williams)... Anyone know why?

Personally, I see no reason to ask your 1st question as its very obvious that he wanted to catch them off guard which could lead to breaking them. The strategy didn't work so it looked bad, but as I said on another thread, had it worked, and had we gone on to score another quick TD, he would have looked like a genius and people would be calling out, "EW is the MAN!!"

I have no issues with the call as I also have no issues with going for a TD at the end of the half. But, I'm a gambler. I also think that those type of calls can build confidence in your team.

That all being said, I'd have no issue with going the more conservative route either and kicking the ball into the end zone. Please no POOCH kicks!!!

Regarding your second question, is that the purple stripe that was seen on some helmets prior to the season beginning. Starting at the forehead and going straight back to the top of the helmet, but not going down the back of it and about 3/4" - 1" wide?

This stat I just saw puts this past game into a new light. We seem to forget just how good of a program Lehigh is.
They've won 29 of their last 35 games.

Anyone who was at the game knows Lehigh is not a cupcake. Their QB & RB were legit. If people are attempting to lump them in with your STFU's, CCSU's & Elon's, they're dead wrong.

I've realized this from the day we signed the deal with them. They have a good program. What I didn't realize was how little support they have. I really expected them to have 10 - 12k fans. For as strong as they have been, why are they not supported any better? They have over 7k students. A lot of tradition. Its not like they are a 2K undergrad school. I don't get it.

RE: Lehigh in-game....
I think the private school mentality might play a role here. Not many private schools have great attendance numbers. We tailgated next to a guy who was there in his Mercedes RV. He chatted us up about our prediction, then kinda switched the whole conversation to the Steelers. When we went back out to drink more during the lightning delay, his RV was gone. Not sure what their historic attendance average is. That said, their attendance last Saturday was actually better than many of our CAA foes, as I've seen it.

RE: Lehigh in-game....
Only things I can figure about the poor showing of Lehigh fans is that the stadium is about 3 miles from the main campus. A large proportion of the Athletic facilities are located on the Goodman campus which is south over the mountain from the academic campus. So getting there is a bit of a chore. That plus it was so hot and humid (wife and I about died) coupled with the trek to the stadium probably kept some fans away.

That explains why when I went to google maps satellite view and zoomed in, I could not figure out where the stadium was.

Yeah, it's always a struggle if you don't get an address for an athletics building in your GPS. Both times now, I've driven to the academic campus, then just winged it over the mountain until I found the stadium.

Which is a case study for why JMU should not build a convo away from campus.
It is common sense.

Guys-

Lehigh has been a strong program recently, and this was a solid win on the road.

Congratulations and best of luck moving forward......I think you will end up better than preseason polls predicted.
