FIU and the future of CUSA
There is no doubt that FIU is horrible right now but there is no reason to think they will stay that way. UAB just spent a decade of suck but one coaching hire appears to have changed that. FIU has too much going for it to remain as bad as they are. We need to realize that every member of cusa is one bad coaching hire away from becoming as bad as FIU USM and UAB have been the last two years. We also need to remember it only takes one good hire to turn it around. If we put our focus into developing the conference instead of tearing it down CUSA has the potential to be the best non power football conference

RE: FIU and the future of CUSA
Honestly, you all should take some time and do just a little internet surfing on what's going on at FIU. This is a young, extremely virbrant research oriented university with 54,000 students, high admission standards, and some serious building going on around campus. As this young university continues to grow, get more alumni and (frankly) does a better job in athletic success, this school has every potential to be a shining gem in C-USA.

I don't go to FIU, live in Tampa, and have no ties to the school at all, but it reminds me of UCF 20 years ago. I think we have a future star rising in Miami.

I worked in Miami for a short time in the late 80's. that experience led me to be against FIU being added to CUSA. The more research I did on FIU the more I liked the addition and I realized my original opinion was wrong. They desperately need a new AD but that's an easy fix. FIU can build a hard core 25k fan base with some decent teams and that's all you need to be successful on this level. FIU has over 50,000 students and most will stay in the Miami area. Give them a good product while they are in school and a lot are going to continue to support FIU after they graduate. When they get older and have some success they will donate money.

RE: FIU and the future of CUSA
I was lisyening to College Sports Nation on Sirius XM yesterday. The two hosts were talking about the Arizona v UTSA game. They had nothing but good things to say about UTSA and C-USA. They ranked us right next to the Mountain West and right behind the AAC. Not to bad since we were suppose to be the worst conference.

RE: FIU and the future of CUSA
Thanks for the kind words. Bladhmadh, I would also like to point out that the FIU of the 1980's is much different than the current FIU. I firmly believe FIU will turn it around soon.

This conference genuinely does have a lot of potential, but if the posters of this board (who are probably some of the most hardcore fans these schools have) can't support each other, how will anyone else support this conference? I am glad FIU is in C-USA. I look forward to building rivalries with the schools in this conference. Good luck y'all in your games today.

FIU was a program on the rise just a few short years ago. They'll be fine.

I pick on FIU from time to time, but both FIU and FAU have a lot of potential. Too many good recruits around there for the big schools to pick them all up.

College Athletic finances generally don't work that way...

Again, research. FIU's athletic student fees are insane.

What? Your president thinks education is more important than football? He must not be an American. 03-wink

RE: FIU and the future of CUSA
FIU spent $26.3 million on athletics last year. Of that, $22.0 million was subsidized (roughly 77%). The athletic department organically generated about $4.3 million in revenues.

Long story short, FIU students are already fully carrying the load for FIU athletics.

..... fiu has a lot of students for sure. They have serious attendance issues, documented on youtube, as posting 15k+ attendance and having maybe 100 in the stands. The AD got a 20k bonus for football attendance last year.... wtf???

Get the new AD and coaching staff and roll. You fired the only coach that had success there, i believe it was 2010? When we played you in the bowl game

If they start winning attendance will improve.

Yep.

Even with a winning team FIU will never be a team that gets a full stadium for every game, but they can at least look respectable.

Nobody is going to watch a loser, especially in South Florida where there are so many other things to do.
