Long Term OOC Rivalries
With so much discussion on the quality of OOC games, P5 discussions on limiting G5 opponents, G5 wanting home and home series with P5, I'd like to propose one other "fan friendly" concept...long term rivalries guaranteed in a 3 or 4 game OOC scenario.

So, if that were part of the equation, which guaranteed, long term OOC games would you like to see?

Some of mine are (I'm a fan mostly of G5 level schools, but don't limit your choices to that, just because I mostly do except for WVU):

1. West Virginia vs. Pitt (the Backyard Brawl). It's a travesty, this doesn't still exist.
2. Marshall v. Ohio
3. Any combination of LaTech, ULL, Tulane
4. Middle Tennessee vs Memphis
5. North Texas and SMU

RE: Long Term OOC Rivalries
The University of Cincinnati and Miami University of Ohio have a long running OOC rivalry. (I think it's the 3rd oldest, continuous rivalry in CFB...) The trophy is "The Victory Bell" (I know, it's not unique...). There have been some movement to discontinue the rivalry due to UC moving "up" conference-wise and MoO being a MAC school, but it's our last organic rivalry.

UC vs. Louisville was a FANTASTIC rivalry, though in-conference until recent history. Sadly, this game is gone and I see little-to-no chance of it ever coming back. The trophy was "The Keg O' Nails," which was...well, a wooden nail keg...

Guidos vs Hillbillies (WVU) was always my favorite as a Rutgers alum.

Louisville was my favorite rivalry from the last 10 years of the old BE

Wouldn't mind hooking up with Miami again for some revenge now that Rutgers is actually a strong football program.

Cuse and UConn were nice local rivals but our schools were rarely good at the same time.

I have to laugh a little... I live in Morgantown and haven't seen such a concentration of NJ license plates outside of the Garden State itself. There is a HUGE proportion of NJ residents attending WVU, to the point where it is almost an in-state contest. The other thing is that I don't think Rutgers EVER beat WVU...which kinda makes it not such a rivalry game.

RE: Long Term OOC Rivalries
The Backyard Brawl was certainly the defining rivalry of the Big East and I'd like to see it continue, but teamWest Virginia having a 9 game conference schedule and Pitt having other out of conference games it values more (Penn State and Notre Dame), I don't think there is room to make it annual again. Still, they should play a few times a decade.

For Ohio State, I don't want a locked out of conference team. I'd rather vary them.

I like Louisville vs Cincy. They are our oldest rival. Since we still play the Mildcats this is the game that I miss the most.

For all of us realignment junkies, there is an "Ideal Conference" draft on the ACC board.

The whole point of the OP was including rivalries that are not being played. Every single school on that list it is undebatable that there is some sort of rivalry between the school. Doesn't matter if it's lopsided or not, those schools obviously share a relationship.

that's supposed to be a clear cut list, you are trying to make it fuzzy with an extremely condensed/opinionized definition of what constitutes a rivalry.

RE: Long Term OOC Rivalries
BYU-Utah State 83 total games played, didn't play as much in the last 10 years as they normally do, but it is usually an annual rivalry and have played for the last 6 years straight. (How you don't know this is beyond me)

BYU-Wyoming 77 games played also have a lil bit of 1960s race relations feud thrown in. Wyoming fans blame BYU for the downfall of their program. This series is known for its infamous "F*** You BYU" chant.

BYU-AF Former Gang of Five members

AF-Colorado Inactive rivalry, but still a rivalry just like Texas-Texas A&M (Now you are starting to piss me off)

UTEP-NMSU 91 total games played. these two have played every year with only a few exceptions going back to 1920 (This is the last straw for me)

this is where I'm stopping because you obviously don't have a clue. Not gonna give you the courtesy of breaking down every single rivalry for you. Notre-Dame & Michigan don't consider their series a rivalry??? You must be on crack. Syracuse is Penn States second most played opponent at 71 games and joe pa even publicly lobbied for their inclusion into the Big 10 you dumb ignorant prick. Georgia Tech is a former SEC school that Alabama still references in their fight song as their rival, Alabama-PSU is a fan favorite for being brought back by Penn Staters and Bammers alike. I can't believe some jerk is trying to educate me on this issue when he clearly DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE about any of this.

It would be nice to play Pitt every once in a while, and I do miss the brawl. However, I think a good deal of WVU fans (particularly those under 40) would pass on the Brawl to keep VT on the schedule. I think Luck is doing a masterful job on our OOC scheduling.

Actually the UC-Miami Victory Bell is very unique. The use of the Victory Bell as a travelling trophy began in the 1890s. It's not our fault that other rivalries copied us.

john01992, there is no need to use that language.

I agree with you on the Army-ND game. That game used to be ND's biggest rival and one of the most anticipated games every year. It is a shame that everyone only remembers the rivalry for the Game of the Century and the 1913 game.

It should be played yearly.

CORRECTIONS:
*Yes, SU stunk in '06. No, SU and RU were not rivals, and are not rivals. We are local-ish, though.
*RU and WVU aren't rivals and RU and WVU never were rivals. However, I'm sure RU fans hate WVU fans, and I'm sure WVU fans hate RU fans. Then again, pretty much every school's fans hate WVU fans and the same goes for RU fans.
*RU v. []_[] isn't a rivalry. It never was and it never will be.
*RU isn't good. You are just less bad then you were when your were horrifically bad.
*I always thought that RU and UConn had the potential to turn into a rivalry in football.

Agreed. It had a lot of potential and probably the school I'll miss most playing every year. I think they could have become the football equivalent to what Syracuse was to UCONN in basketball.

Tennessee and Virginia Tech is a rivalry that just doesn't get played much. Besides the ACC-SEC state matchups (GT vs. Georgia, etc) Vandy vs. Wake Forest is solid.

Would love to see a GT vs. Purdue "Engineer's Cup"

No, that isn't the case with misery and KU. They knowingly and willing forfeited any connection when they cut and ran.

Clemson and Georgia - 64 total games, more than Clemson has played against UNC or UVA. On hour and a half separate the two schools.

Clemson and Auburn - 49 total games, the same number as conference-mate UVA.
