No they haven't played this year. St Ed's other loss was to an out of state team I believe.

Yep, they lost to Bergen Catholic out of NJ. As far as I can see, they only lost to Paramus in NJ this year so far.

Looks like they'll be moving back to D1 quickly.

It's my understanding LaSalle had to go D2 strictly due to enrollment numbers. It gets reevaluated every 5(?) years. I don't know the validiity of this but I also heard Elder is on the brink of D2 as well.

It's not their decision, it's based on enrollment. And no, they can't get a waiver to compete in Division I because other schools have already tried unsuccessfully to obtain one.

Congrats to the kids and supporters of Lasalle. I was pretty tuned in with the Loveland experience last year and it really kind of lifts you up on many levels. Very happy for them.

Division I is 608+. Elder is at 735, so they're comfortable. Moeller is at 697.

One thing I find weird is that DI has 72 teams, while every other division has 105+.

Correct, on LS being in D2 because of enrollment numbers. They can't just decide to move back up to D1 as the OP said.

As for Elder they are nowhere near the brink of D2. They are currently at 950 students total (735 for the 3 classes that determine division), which is actually bigger than Moeller. LaSalle currently sits around 700 students total and their current freshman class is extremely small (only around 150 students).

It will be interesting to see if the Archdiocese eventually decides to merge LS with McAuley. My kid's go to St. Ignatius and there has been a lot of speculation about that recently. McAuley's freshman class is also incredibly small (around 100) and both have had declining enrollment for years. I think if the state ever does away with the voucher program then they'd for sure merge.

I think it is Colerain that is close to the enrollment numbers for D2. But I heard they are thinking of shutting down Northwest and moving them over to Colerain so they don't have to worry about it.

I JUST had this conversation with someone inside the Sycamore program. It is based strictly on enrollment numbers. I don't know if they re-evaluate it every 5 years, but he said there is a good chance Sycamore will be dropping down to D2 next year.

They do re-evaluate every few years. I'm not sure if it is every 3 or every 5. I've heard both, but you are right it is based solely on enrollment numbers.

Sounds like the UAB saga played out at the high school level.

I did not think of that but you are right.

It's every three, and the roll the limits to create the divisional balance we had the past couple, so unless Sycamore's enrollment dropped to the point where other schools could jump them, I doubt they'd have to worry about going down. For the record, the 'enrollment figure' is, as Marcus noted, the amount of students enrolled in the school with the same gender of the sport they are analyzing within the top three grades of that school.
