Good for them. They should enjoy life in D2.

Glad to see another school start up football. There seems to be quite a few schools from the NAIA to USCAA to NCAA D3/2/FCS they have started up football.

So the Sun Belt is waiting on UWF's football program for expansion?
USA fans would just love that.

Looks like the Sun Belt has three openings:
Jason Groves
@JPGroves
Spoke with Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson. The conference will re-evaluate NMSU and Idaho in two years

This school year is 2014-15 so if they are planning to wait until 2016-17 to make a decision on NMSU/Idaho that leaves UMass out hanging for 2016 with no conference home.
The SBC could get rid of NMSU/Idaho and add Missouri St as the 10th FB member, 12th all sport at that point in time if they wanted to. That would tighten the SBC lineup significantly and get them poised for a 9 figure TV deal.

UWF isn't going FBS. No worries on our part. Or Troy's for that matter.

Can you see the logo from the sidelines? Maybe they ought to consider re-sizing it.

Good for them, but that helmet is atrocious. I hope that's not the final design.

I live in Pcola so I'll check out a game or two.
If they ever moved into the Sunbelt count me in on season tickets.

They won't be moving up. USA and Troy would block them. But that's not going to be necessary because UWF doesn't do big things. Its not in their DNA. They'd also have to build a stadium to play in to go to FBS (and there's no money in P'cola for that).
They've never bothered trying to jump to D1 basketball (even though they have an arena to play in).
I wish UWF the best in D2. Or FCS. But unless something dramatic happens in Pensacola, I don't see FBS as being where UWF goes.

Financially speaking, going from Division II to Division I FCS is a bigger jump than FCS to FBS, as football alone is 27 additional scholarships, which of course is doubled due to Title IX. There's also the issue of what conference would invite the Argos, as they are too far south for the OVC, too far east the Southland, and the Atlantic Sun doesn't sponsor football.

Big South would be my guess. It's not a great geographic fit, but they've only got six football members after replacing Stony Brook with Monmouth. They go to seven in 2015 with Kennesaw State, but with Liberty and to a lesser degree Coastal Carolina as flight risks, they still need to be thinking proactively to avoid a collapse should those schools move up or move on.
The SoCon would be the next-likeliest spot, but they're larger, have no flight risks and would probably be more likely to invite Coastal Carolina than to invite a D-II moveup.

FCS to FBS is by far a bigger jump that DII to FCS. Coaching salaries at the FBS level are obscene, and FBS has facility requirements. The financial requirements are a much higher hurdle at FBS. Look at Dakota schools: NDSU particularly. They moved to FCS from DII, and now they dominate after a decade at DII where they rarely made the DII playoffs.

FBS has attendance requirements (which they ignore or provide enough wiggle room so that nearly anyone can pass), but not facility requirements. Perhaps they'd apply the standard more strictly for schools wanting to move up as opposed to schools already in.

UWF does have plenty of space for a stadium on the east side of its campus. They could build a 30,000 seat stadium that could be built with expanision in mind.

So what part is western? I thought it was either, North, Central or South.
