if an area SEC school could book a game in the Forum, not involving the U of M, then it would have been done by now. Ain't happening... end of story.

No out of town schools should be playing a home game in Memphis. If HOOPS Inc even considers this U of M should raise bloody hell. Hopefully this is addressed on our contract with HOOPS Inc.

We have a contract...not gonna happen

But we all know just how useless contracts are. There is also a contract that says the Pyramid must remain available in case the Forum becomes unusable. Going to be hard to play basketball there with all that fishing and hunting gear.

I believe the Pyramid contract had a clause to void that should it be leased out...and it was.

Notice the Forum has been open a decade now...if UT or UA could play here, without playing Memphis....they would have already done it.

You're worrying over nothing.

The only non-conference teams we should be brining in are women's bball tourneys.

We could bring in the SEC, AAC, and Big XII all to Memphis in the same week. Play games at the Forum, Elma Roane, and Desoto. Bring the championship games all to Beale Street. It would be the biggest event in women's sports.

Only took 28 replies on the pig board before a Memphis State line was brought out.

Most of them seem to want to play, Memphis in Memphis.

Give me Kansas.

Did you read the forum post. It is about Ark playing Ole Miss at the forum not us. TWO OUT OF TOWN TEAMS PLAYING EACH OTHER.

Mmhmm... I read it.

What would them giving us the football game they owe us have to do with letting them play another SEC school on our home court. That would make no sense. They get double exposure in Memphis. You let their football team and basketball team play in Memphis.

I'd like to see the football game. I'm sure there are plenty of our fans (and admin) that would be okay with them playing that game. But, they shouldn't be asking any favors of Memphis until they pay up on that agreement.

I agree with you on the basketball side. I wouldn't be too crazy about them having an SEC game at the Forum.

Can you not afford the sec network? Why the hell would you like to go watch two sec teams play in memphis. That mindset escapes me.

This actually scares me. Baseball tournament too. The city really could kill both events but it would hurt my feelings.

Ole Miss played UT in the Liberty Bowl in 1990 and 1996. Ole Miss played Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl in 1995. If I recall correctly, Morgan Keegan pulled the strings to make sure all three games were staged. Not sure if that involved getting Memphis Tiger sign-off or not. Keep in mind, this is when VHS held 42k fans, so Ole Miss stood to make a lot more money at the gate with games in Memphis at that time.

I recall a few conference games in Ole Miss basketball vs. Kentucky and Arkansas at the Pyramid. Not sure what had to happen for those to take place.

As I recall, Arkansas (with Todd Day) played Ole Miss at the Coliseum in the late 80's. The game drew about 6,000. If they played that game at the FEF today, I'm not sure it would even draw that many. Look at those games Ole Miss or Mississippi State tried to play at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, they drew about 2,000. This is something we don't need to waste one more keystroke on. It ain't happening.

Im on your team. I think some of those games would draw ok but no team in either sport outside mississippi basketball is giving up a home gate. mississippi basketball draws flies so playing in memphis against another sec team and splitting the gate would make sense for them. Not for anyone else.

I remember when UT played UCLA, speak of the devil, at Memorial Stadium in about 1966.

I remember a few years back Arkansas and Memphis played a mid week set in baseball. One in LR at standing room capacity (9,000plus) and one at Autozone with 6,000(90% Hog) in attendance. Game received very little promo on the Memphis side.

Wish that would happen again. a

Nolan and Big John with Cheney and Finch had a Black Coaches Association twin bill at the Pyramid once.

It should be noted that Bartow has passed and the Grizz has new ownership when it comes to the management side of the arena itself.

There's still the little matter of the contract forbidding any other school from playing home games at the Forum.

Is that actually in the contract? That would seem shortsighted on the part of FEF. I dig it if it is though. Good for the tigers.

Yep. Only Memphis can play college basketball home games at FedExForum...only the Grizzlies can play pro home games at FedExForum.

However, pre/post season tourneys are the exception...thus why Memphis tried to battle Nashville for the SEC basketball tourney...and lost.
