What would your ideal OOC schedule look like if you were the AD?
Stumped him.
Mostly Big 12 schools that area HS player have more knowledge of. OOC game against teams with little appeal with area HS players do you very little.
So you would play 2 or 3 Big XII schools every season?

RE: Why UCLA? Tom Bowen explains
Play who will play us home & home from the P5. We can all offer opinions of whom we would like to play but many of these P5 schools won't play us home & home. I would suggest, however, there is a pool of P5 schools that will play us home & home and it appears Bowen & Fuente are attempting to schedule them (UCLA, Kansas, Missouri, Ole Ms, Duke recent examples). I'd prefer those games exclude Ole Ms & UTK but if we are going to play them in BB, then FB should be a prerequisite. I'd prefer that at least 3 P5 games be scheduled per year, that would mean at least one would be played at home in any given year & in other years two such games but understand there are other considerations so at least 2 P5 games per year with at least one scheduled at home. I could state team preference, which I have, but in reality we just need to schedule P5 teams.

I don't worship UCLA, but I certainly DID want to play them, as well as other big-name football programs outside the South. Such as games are interesting as well as beneficial to Memphis in a number of ways.

We should play lower level teams from any conference we think we have a shot at joining in the future. Sec is never going to invite us, so lets build some relationships with other conferences that we have a better chance with - Such as Kansas.

The last time they stepped into the Liberty Bowl they got their butts beat and Tommy Protho went nuts.
Actually, the last time UCLA stepped on the field here was when Alabama whipped them good in a rather chilly Liberty Bowl in the mid 70's.
I believe UCLA came out for warm ups wearing sleeves, gloves, and hoods. Bama came out in their short, sleeveless jerseys. Bear Bryant wore a short sleeve shirt leaning against a goal post watching the warm ups.
UCLA lost that game before the opening kickoff.
That may have been the coldest Liberty Bowl of all.
The ND/BC game was full of ice, but the Alabama/UCLA game was a bone chiller. Everyone that sat through both of those games was certifiable nuts.
That may be, but that ND/BC game was COLD!!!!!

We should win every game. Regardless of who we play. Let's shoot for that.

Why UCLA? Tom Bowen explains
I went to every LB game from 1970 through 1977 (girlfriend's dad on city council) and they were all BITTER cold.

Announcers discussing UCLA's ranking:
"We'll see what happens in front of them. Ole Miss has an interesting game against Memphis - who I think is a better team than people think. They are going to be preparing for Alabama and that showdown next week."

Bruins absolutely destroying Arizona State on the road. Sun Devils are a legit top 25, [/i]but Huntley is making them look like a C-USA team.
I guess this settles all the nonsense about UCLA being overrated.

I agree. I think we matched up better with them than we will with Ole Miss, but expect they are a better overall team than Ole Miss.

I would have a monster big OOC game on the sked almost every year. First, you can't beat them if you don't play them. Second, it's good pub for program. Third, doesn't hurt if you loose and you even gain respect for playing these games. And you can get a big payday out of it.
